Orienteering (control collection) 35:00 [3]

11 AM

Orienteering 1:25:33 [3]

Course 2 OY4 Stag's Roar

Running wasn't too flash but got through OK albeit with some slow stuff, particularly up hills (even though they weren't a that big or steep). A few mistakes cost around 10 minutes but still way too slow running.

Headed too far right on 3 (lost 1 minute)

Missed 4 completely (to the right again) and ended up hitting 5 - I saw the corner of the clearing to the right, but somehow ended up carrying on til I hit 5 (lost 4 minutes)

Had location problems after leaving 17, once I got back into the white I was too far to the right and then didn't find the big track. Ended up way too far to the north, came down onto the track and then back to 18 (lost 5 minutes)

Ugg.

Walk 1:10:00 [3]

Tried and failed to find DOC track at Rangiputa so went to the other end at Puheke. Got to end of beach and failed to find connecting track to Rangiputa, I think it's either mythical or a figment of someone's imagination
3 PM

Run 25:00 [3]

Ran back along beach with C - I was carrying the pack of course.

Had a few extra minutes barefoot then headed into the surf for a skinny dip (the beach was vacant BTW!). Certain extremities did the ol' magical shrinking act but the water was rather refreshing!! Unfortunately couldn't quite catch a wave body surfing as the waves were a bit small and erratic.

Walk 1:40:00 [3]

Maitai bay - wow, then over to karikari beach - double wow. They make real nice beaches up this way...
3 PM

Run 50:00 [3]

From DOC campground in Maitai bay over to Karikari beach, down the beach to Puheke where C picked me up. Map was completely wrong - the road in was deadend that finished miles away from the beach so C had a mild panic! She went around the long way, got to the carpark, looked up the beach to the rocky cliffs and went 'oh oh, how's he going to get around that?'

Ended up meeting up half way around headlands, me on the beach, C shouting at me from the top of a cliff to get my attention, so got back to the car before the sun went down :-)

Yet *another* fantastic stretch of beach, I wonder if the locals get a bit blasé about the great coast they have up around here?

Walk 1:45:00 [3]

Having been to Rarawa beach on a surfing trip (I was the in water photographer) sometime in the early 80's, thought it might be a nice place to go back to for a look. Yeah, that's one nice beach!

Barefoot walk (I'd left our shoes behind, whoops!) up and down the whole beach. Had to stop at the rocks at each end, soft feet and rocks don't mix too well

Walk 2:15:00 [3]

Headed the other way today, to end of Tokerau through to Whatawhiwhi around the rocks abs back again.
3 PM

Run 42:00 [3]

C dropped me off at the next bay past Whatawhiwhi (end of road) and I ran back via rocksans beach. Couple if tricky sections to start with - waves coming in but tide was close to low (phew). Got a bit wet and had to climb through a rock hole at one point to avoid a worse option.

All good fun
