Run long 6:00:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trail Attack 6 (#2)
Started at the Muriwai end of Te Henga track and ended up on Piha Rd at end of Ian Wells Tk. Was intending to carry through to titirangi however was running out of time as had my niece's engagement party to get to so called up the transportation (who was running along exhibition drive at the time). Good call as I would have been in the doghouse if I was a couple of hour later!
Felt nice and easy for first ~1:30 - hardly knew I was running. Also had a nice patch around 4 hours or so when was feeling pretty good. Started getting tired close to 5 hours but got through to the end fairly comfortably
Tracks were pretty messy, lots of mud and water. Had to empty my shoes and socks of silt once I got up the top of houghtons. Streams running down tracks in a number of places - the Ian Wells Tk in particular
And got quite scratched up by the gorse on Te Henga - I think I'll be digging it out of my legs for the next couple of weeks.
1:55 Te Henga.
0:55 Around Lake Wainamu. This seemed to take way longer than it should have, although there'd been a bit of a flood through there recently and I took a bit of a detour trying to figure out where I was supposed to go. After looking at the map all became clear - no, don't try to go up that stream at the head of the lake... Also markers were few and far between (OK, I saw two - one at the start and one at the end) and I ended up going over the sanddunes
0:40 Up houghtons with a little tiki tour towards the top where I lost the track for a while - I didn't realise the track went over a fence. By the look of it plenty of other people had done the same thing as there was a reasonable track on the ground for quite some way
2:19 Smythe ridge, long rd, ridge rd, cutty grass and Ian Wells. Took a bit longer doing this than I was expecting.
0:10 Short run down track to access road and back to chew up a little time while waiting for C
