Trail Run race (Wolkberg Trail run Day 2) 2:54:42 [5] 29.1 km (6:00 / km) +790m 5:17 / km
ahr:156 shoes: Kalenji XT7 blue/bronze

Day 2, start and finish at Stanford. Mist and rain cleared, and beautiful sunny day. My legs were sore, no joke! I thought everyone might take it easy for a few km's before pushing, by Malcolm and Khumbulani blazed off the line. I was barely holding on. They finally broke me at the 6k mark in Cheerio gardens, and then I went backwards. Had a few one day runners (only running Sunday) come past me, so that was bleak. There was mention of a small change to the route near the end, but had no idea this added 4kms, and added a huge climb from km ~24 to ~27. It was a beast! The run was supposed to be 25k, but was 29k. Instead of the "flatter" finish around the edge of Ebenezer Dam, the route went up through Windemere, with a downhill last km into Stanford. Most people weren't too happy about that! I'll admit, I was broken after today. I left my legs on Iron Crown, and felt so flat near the end that I actually begged a drink off a fellow runner who came past holding a half-empty bottle... What a day! Malcolm made up the 6 mins deficit on me and came 2nd overall after 2 days, but thankfully despite my spectacular blow up on day 2, I managed to hold onto 3rd place overall. Khumbulani took 1st as expected. He is fast! Love this race.
