Day 2 at Elandshoogte. Once again, loved the map and terrain. Got off to a good start, and caught and passed Michele (+3) and Gary (+6) at #6. That motivated me, and I had a good run through the next few controls. #13 control was not there (later found out it was mis-placed), but the orange tape tag was still tied onto the grass at the correct spot, so figured the flag wasn't put out, and I just carried on. Didn't lose any time. Was on for a sub-40, and then #17. Found Ryno doing a grid search in the area, and he said he couldn't find it at all. I found another orange tape tag hanging above a bounder, but no control (I thought another #13 scenario?). I figured that must be it. Gary came along just in time and he lead me in. I'm convinced it was not in the right place (I was in the minority!). :-) There was also a LOT of extra rock detail there that I'm certain wasn't mapped... Another horrible end to what was, until then, a great run. Very happy overall with my nav (in general) and running. Once again, more focus to the end required. My feet are completely stuffed after these 2 days. Worse than they have ever been after days of AR... I might be getting soft, or maybe I must retire my very old shoes now...

Orienteering race (Nooitgedacht Towers) 1:20:17 [5] **** 9.92 km (8:06 / km) +340m 6:55 / km
ahr:151 26c shoes: Salomon speedcross 4

The Kaapsehoop O-Ringen weekend. Loved this map, quite technical and good climb! Had a good start, then stuffed up #4. Went to 5 first, then back to 4. Kept it together really well and was having a great run until the 3rd last control (#24). Coming down the hill from 23, I somehow went too far north (lost focus!), and only realised when I saw the fence which was the northern extent of the map. That rattled me, and then proceeded to panic (not sure why?) and stuffed up 25 and 26. Had a 5 minute lead with 3 controls to go, and then really messed it up. Alex took the win by 22 seconds. Only myself to blame. I really enjoyed that run up to #24. Nav was felling good and running strong. Just needed a bit more focus and concentration all the way to line.
