Stretch & Strength 25:00 [1]

Really stiff and sore from yesterday's ski so took it easy. Needed a couple of Advil to get through the night.

Sunday Feb 28, 2016 #

XC Skiing 2:20:00 [1]

Beautiful ski with Bill M. at Nakkertok checking control sites for the ski-O next week-end. Best conditions I have seen this winter.
It was also fun watching the Russian and Norwegian team skiers training on the Nakkertok hills. They were obviously having a good time. To top it off, the chalet was packed with families of kids participating in the cookie race. A wonderful atmosphere!
Hip was sore much of the time but I easily ignored it - except for a couple of times when I had to climb steep pitches.

Stationary Bike 20:00 [1]

Feeling lousy today. Thought a walk or spin would help. After 15 minutes on the bike my stomach was really sour. Stopped and stretched for a few minutes but I have some kind of low grade stomach bug.

Walking 59:00 [1]

Revelstoke loop with Mumsey on a cold day and very icy footing. Quick stretch afterwards. Then another big supper at Lynns. Ignored the scale.

Thursday Feb 25, 2016 #

Stationary Bike 38:00 [2]

Just an even tempo spin to get the blood flowing after a day feeling like I was coming down with something. Snoozed after breakfast which was really strange.

Stretch & Strength 25:00 [2]

One set of the standard routine. After a day off, the hip is more flexible. Can tie my shoes without grunting!

Tuesday Feb 23, 2016 #

Stationary Bike 40:00 [2]

Good spin watching the news. Zone 2 for 10 minutes.

Stretch & Strength 25:00 [2]

Kinda rushed through the routine after the spin. The plank at the end was really tough. Weight still at 163.

Walking 1:12:00 [1]

Walked along the canal to Carleton U. Met up with David from St. Pats who was foot-commuting home downtown - a 75 minute walk. I was slowing him down. Footing was very poor on the newly frozen puddles on the bike path.
Quickie stretch afterwards.

Walking 58:00 [1]

Revelstoke 5K again. Stopped to talk with old friends along they way so it was actually a bit longer.

Stretch & Strength 30:00 [2]

Finally put together a "formal" set of 12 strength and stretch routines as recommended by my physio 2 weeks ago. Have been too sore to do some of the routine. A couple of movements are still painful. Have to get serious about this so I am going to schedule this 30 minute routine every second day until I can do two sets in comfort. I will schedule my daily one hour walk/ski/bike/snowshoe at a separate time with a stretch.

Walking 58:00 [1]

The 5 K Revelstoke loop in mild weather and big puddles.

Walking 30:00 [1]

Glutes were really stiff so I took it easy followed by 1 set of my stretch & strength routine. So many friends are sick I am concerned about getting at all run-down.

Walking 59:00 [1]

Slowish walk on the snowy sidewalks and roads around Revelstoke. Hip complained mildly the whole way. Really stiff now - gotta go stretch.

Walking 58:00 [1]

Felt awful at lunch, so I had a nap but still felt like I was battling some bug. I headed out for a walk feeling very stiff. Glutes really sore. Almost turned around after 5 min. but I statrted to warm up and feel better. So I finished the 5K loop with energy to spare. Add in 20 minutes of show shovelling and I think I have earned my glass of wine with dinner. : )

Stationary Bike 45:00 [1]

A quick spin before dinner. Hip is very stiff today. Can barely bend to tie my shoes. Skating really agrivates it. Anyway, with all the new snow and mild temperatures it may be the end of the canal ice for this season.

Monday Feb 15, 2016 #

Skating - canal 50:00 [1]

Lousy ice from the very cold temperatures meant for a very slow and cautious skate. Was very stiff in any case and never got into a good rhythm. More snow coming so I am looking forward to a good ski in the next couple of days.

Sunday Feb 14, 2016 #

Stationary Bike 45:00 [2]

Good spin watching the golf and listening to Bruce Hornsby/Cheryl Crow/John Mayer. Now I have "free fallin" on the brain. Rushed my stretch to get to supper. Hip feels much better than yesterday.

Friday Feb 12, 2016 #

Skating - canal 1:15:00 [1]

Slowish skate working on the skate-O map. The 3 cm of snow was hiding some rough spots. Fell once breaking my black pencil but no bones. Wind picked up on the way back. Hip is sore but I will sleep well tonight. A bit of stretch and strength afterwards.

Thursday Feb 11, 2016 #

Stationary Bike 45:00 [2]

Good spin with 10 minutes in zone 2. Hip is stiff to start but it quickly warms up and I can keep a steady pace. 10 minutes stretch and strengh afterwards. Need to do more.

Wednesday Feb 10, 2016 #

Walking 55:00 [2]

Snowy walk around the 5K Revelstoke loop. Nice temperature, clear roads.
Shortened stretch afterwards to get supper ready.

Monday Feb 8, 2016 #

Stationary Bike 35:00 [2]

Quick spin with the music cranked up. Wasn't watching the time. Bridge and beer night. Weight won't budge. Need a new plan. : )

Sunday Feb 7, 2016 #

Walking 1:05:00 [3]

Good brisk walk along the canal to Carleton U. The weather was brisk too with a steady Nort wind. Feel good right after but I stiffen up within minutes - especially if its cold. A fifteen minute stretch and a plank and a few pushups helps.

Saturday Feb 6, 2016 #

Walking 53:00 [2]

One of my briskest walks on the 5K Revelstoke loop. Glutes very stiff tonight.
The warm weather is making a mess of the canal. May not have time to set up the skate-O before the end of Winterlude.

Thursday Feb 4, 2016 #

Stationary Bike 55:00 [3]

First spin in a long while. Upgraded the TV and the headphones so the time really flew by. Hip was stiff at first but it seemed to lossen up. 8 minutes in zone 2, my lungs were ok but my hip said "enough!". Rushed my stretch a bit, supper was in the oven.

Stretch & Strength 30:00 [2]

Reviewed my hip management plan with Bev, my physio. She corrected the stretches and strength poses and postures, leaving me quite sore but revitalzed towards improving the hip. I have been babying it and she wants me to push past some of the discomfort and strengthen the surrounding muscle groups.

Walking 55:00 [1]

Feeling frustrated today. Another visit with a surgeon and another - "we can't guarantee any benefit" for surgical repair on the hip. Manage the pain they say. So I guess I just carry on at half-speed. At least I can plan the summer now and commit to some low-impact mapping projects.

Monday Feb 1, 2016 #

Walking 59:00 [1]

Balmy weather so the 5K Revelstoke loop was easy. But The hip is really stiff tonight. It hasn't had a day off in a while. Off to see the surgeon to-morrow. I have no idea what he will propose. Probably won't be until the summer before he can schedule any procedure.
