Orienteering race 1:27:00 [3]

Wet and slippery run at Lac Beauchamp. Really controlled my pace so I was never breathing hard. That means slow. But 87 minutes of continuous run/walk is hard on the old joints so I guess it was wise. I was tired at the end but still comfortable - no joint or muscle aches. Stiffened up quite quickly, however.

Running 40:00 [3]

Nice run along river to train bridge. Run to walk ratio was 80/20. Glo started with me but doesn't like my "pace" so we carried on alone/together as she would catch me during my walking intervals. Hip felt OK but twinges in the adductors. Stretch stretch stretch.

Walking 3:20:00 [1]

Exploring the SW part of the ridge near Spreckley's looking for a good route to Thomas Dolan and the barrens. Had to veer way west through lots of scrub and then some very nice forest and then more thick woods. Will try the SSE woods next time. Afterwards, Glo & I met landowners Judy and Vern for dinner at the Swan in Carp. Very nice. I have to follow up with Vern on the surrounding landowner permissions.

Running 40:00 [3]

Perfect weather again - sunny and 20C. Dizens of other runners, boot camp and XC ski kids training in VM park. Mount Mooney was covered with people in various training activities.
Run/walk ratio was probably 3 to 1. I pretend that the walks represent a slow attack and then move away from a control site but the reality is I am in lousy shape.

Walking 20:00 [1]

A planned 2-3 hour exploration/ walk-about at the North end of the ridge ended up being a very pleasant social afternoon with a landowner. Now we have a possible new start area and a good contact person to introduce me to his neighbours.

Note

Very stiff and sore from yesterday's run. So the planned short run was easily forgotten. Even the stretching hurt.

Orienteering race 1:20:00 [3]

Beautiful day and woods are already opening up so the visibility was very good to fantastic. Only a few minor mistakes but the jog/walk ratio was probably 50/50. Time per Km run was 13-14 minutes. Not very good considering most of my route choices involved paths. Thought I was going to be really sore afterwards but not too bad.

Walking 1:20:00 [1]

Checking out the map at the south end of Spreckley's property. Woods are still nice in most areas but the bottom end is a bit of a dead-end with only a narrow stretch of woods to return by. Owner has maintained the main trail and mowed the large meadow.
Supper at the Cheshire Cat in Carp. Feeling very full right now.

Stretch & Strength 30:00 [1]

Still very stiff from Thursday's run and mapping. Stretching hurt!

Running 45:00 [3]

Cool this morning - perfect running weather. Made it to the train bridge with about a 80/20 run/walk ratio. Felt good to be cool.

Walking 3:00:00 [1]

Mapping out on Carp Ridge. Headed out west from existing map. First hour had nice woods and I drew in some details but then I hit a set of large marshes/lakes and the woods closed in to almost impassable. Kept going west to edge of basemap but woods were thick. So I turned around and followed the side of a long lake through thick woods via an indistinct trail. Still not very nice. Will keep exploring to the south next time.
Now I am pooped and stiff. Realy can't do a workout and much mapping on the same day.

walk/run 40:00 [3]

Had a wonderful week in the Maritimes eating, drinking, listening to music, mapping, driving a lot of miles, conducting a workshop, and hanging out with the relatives. But after 10 days of non-training I felt very sluggish. Run to walk ratio was almost even. Seems like I am starting over with the training every month or so. Mapping doesn't really help my "run" conditioning. Will have to set a new alternate day routine for mapping/running so I can get into some kind of shape for the NAOC's. 500+ entries! 30 old farts in my category!

OK - map work tomorrow and run again on Wednesday. Stretch Stretch Stretch. Wish the hospital would call with an appoiintment for the injection.
Weight OK - 156 after the run.
