First full downtown ride to the locks and back. Had to slow down late in the ride as my right calf kept threatening to cramp up.
Hip was OK. Weather was springlike. Finally!
Gentle ride downtown along canal. Legs were stiff from yesterday. Adductor was on the verge of quitting towards the end. Took it really easy.
First ride in shorts and t-shirt. ahhhhh!
First ride of the season along the river to the new pedestrian bridge at Somerset. Checked out all the new connectors on the west side of the bridge before heading home.
Pretty pooped. Hip held up ok. Good stretch afterwards.
Exploring the boundaries of Foley Mountain CA with Stefan for the mapping project. Woods are really nice. Very positive response from the superintendent to stage the COCs there next year. She has made all the facilities available to us.
Great fun this evening with the Basics and Beyond adults. All in all a very positive day.
Not feeling very energetic and thinking a cold was setting in over the last couple of days so I took it easy. Made some map updates in VM park while on the walk. Still a bit of ice and snow in the woods but it should be a lot drier in a few days.
Good spin watching the Masters and listening to jazz. Stretch and strength afterwards. Still too icy for a real bike ride. Getting restless for some extended outdoor exercise.
Missed a couple of days in my exercise "plan" due to travel fatigue. It was unusual for me to do a work-out walk in the morning but I had to get out before the predicted snowstorm covered all the dry paths and trails along the river. A cold wind but otherwise very nice to get out in the park and to be able to walk virtually everywhere in the forest.
Rain forecast for tomorrow and then a bit more snow so mapping projects will probably start in a couple of days after that. : )
Picking up the remainder of the markers from yesterday's Suncoast meet. Weather was beautiful. Warm and not muggy. All the control sites were in the rolling open pastureland at the north end of the map so it was a beautiful hike.
The thunder and lightening held off for most of the participants at the Suncoast O-Champs at Alafia River State Park in FLA.
But for the late-arriving Adventure Runners and the control picker-uppers the clouds dumped torrents of warm rain. : ) The brim of my Tilly was bent downwards and poured rain down my back and into my backpack.
Six local JROTC teams (all Navy) fought for bragging rights and annual trophies. Great atmosphere. The run-in was a gauntlet of screaming supporters and opponents with team members joining in for the last sprint down the finish shute with each finisher.
Gord has made dozens of maps and run many events in Florida over the last few years. This was the third time we enjoyed a mini vacation and helped out at one of his meets. We will be lucky to do it again!
Placed another dozen controls for the Suncoast meet here in Florida. A nice mix of terrain amid dozens of mountain bike trails. By 10:30 it was in the 80's and time to call it a day.
