Updating the Carp Ridge North map. Darn course setters keep pushing the boundaries of the existing field work! ; ) Found them even more terrain - a private mountain bike park - that we had never had permission to use.
Brian C. had mapped it a few years ago but we planned our courses around the area.
Extending and updating the Arnprior sprint map. When is a canopy not a canopy? When it is small and makes no difference to the navigational ability of the runner. i.e entranceways to a store. Must be an overhang!
Long walk down to the bottom of the map for updates. Lots more green than I remember! Fields are really thick with high grasses and brambles.
Fortunately David had been brush-hogging the main trails. On my feet for ever 5 hours but feel good.
Nice ride along the rivers and back via Preston and the Arboretum. Cool but muggy. No sore bits afterwards. Was cramping badly in the evening after the mapping so need to watch the fluids.
Good day up on the ridge checking the old area. Lots of little changes to the vegetation in the western part that we have never used. Woods are dry but the big water features are full to overflowing.
First ride after two weeks of travelling, orienteering, but mostly eating and wine tasting in BC and Washington State. Gained 5 pounds.
A nice break in the recent bleak weather made for a warm and muggy ride - but I'm not complaining. First time we have seen the sun since we got back on Friday. Full pledge now to exercise at least one hour a day.
Lovely ride with Mumsey around Whistler. Stopped to watch the relay at Lost Lake for a while and then stopped at Green Lake for beer and nachoes. So the first 5 Km took us 2.5 hours! We kept to the main bike paths and worked our way down the valley and then looped back to the village.
We are pooped after 3 days of orienteering and hiking. Winning a couple of medals yesterday has boosted our spirits but not our quads. Counting the walk from the top of the lift to the start area, we decended 500 metres - over 300 at race pace. Yikes! I think all the recent biking at home helped with the climbing. I could keep up with Gord and other people who caught me on the uphills. I think I had the slowest run-in time from the GO control.
