Stationary Bike 22:00 [1]

Gloria really wanted to join an athletic club for the complete fitness facilities and wide range of cardio and yoga classes. They were offering a new year special so I am now a member of the local Movati club.
So I tried one of the stationary bikes and moved on to the pool. Couldn't spend much time as the club was closing early. Not really excited about the facilities but I do want to swim some more and try some spinning classes.

Swimming 10:00 [1]

Quick swim as the club was closing to check out the pool. Very shallow at one end, almost a knuckle knocker. I think it will be good to get the rotator cuff back in shape.

Walking 58:00 [1]

Cold north wind made it uncomfortable at the start but it was fine after the turnaround on the 5km Revelstoke loop. Had planned to ski but the wind was pretty fierce and the classic tracks would have been covered.Good stretch and strength afterwards.

Stretch & Strength 22:00 [2]

Light weights for upper body, planks, and long stretches for the lower bits.

Walking 20:00 [1]

Gave up walking after 20 minutes as the roads and sidewalks were in very bad shape. Some snow shovelling and a good stretch later. After a calm few days, the shoulder has flared up again during the night.
Looking seriously at joining a health club with Glo for the winter so I can swim and to try different machines for the hip exercises.

Stationary Bike 54:00 [1]

The time passed quickly watching the news and listening to Dave Matthews band on the headphones. Good stretch afterwards. Flexibility is still Ok, but nighttime soreness needs an Advil for a good sleep. At this point I don't think that is ever going to change.

Walking 56:00 [1]

Evening walk down onto the Don valley and back up from the east end of Leaside. Leg threatens to cramp until well warmed-up, a symptom that is becoming more and more common, even on the bike. Quick stretch afterwards, needed an Advil to get to sleep.

Walking 46:00 [1]

Pleasant walk in +4 weather to the local shopping centre to watch the shoppers scurry around at the last minute. The roads are a slushy mess and there is too much snow to enjoy the valley trails. Never seen so much snow in TO at this time of year.

Walking 30:00 [1]

Short walk to the grocery store here in TO for last minute goodies. No time for stretching, just drinking and eating. : )

Walking 1:04:00 [1]

Almost turned around after 10 minutes as the leg was cramping and hip was aching. Stopped for a while, stretched and pushed on. Eventually the leg loosened up and I limped around the 5 km loop.
Felt good to put in a longer session. Good stretch afterwards.

Note

Another poor night's sleep. Low energy. Went for a short walk but can hardly call it exercise. Eating too many Xmas goodies. Flung my bad shoulder getting out of Lynda's car. Very painful - but it released something in my upper back. Now I'm sore but some flexibility has returned to the area. All body (not necessarily bodily) functions are slowly getting weirder.
Lynda gave us one of her Stollen breads last night. Delicious! Can't keep my fingers off it. Hash tag -Iatetoomuch!

XC Skiing 35:00 [1]

Easy first ski of the season. Hip was sore before I began so I took it easy.
So, not a lot of energy spent but good to see what the old ski muscles can handle. Conditions were very good. Skiis were fast.
Right now, the hip is throbbing but not too uncomfortable. Wine and Advil helps.

Monday Dec 19, 2016 #

Walking 20:00 [1]

Cut walk short as both legs started complaining. Back is sore too. What a wreck. Did a lot of bending working around the house. Tree is done, all the floors are vacuumed, all the new door handles are installed.

Sunday Dec 18, 2016 #

Stationary Bike 47:00 [1]

Good spin watching football and listening to John Mayer. No real aches, just stiff. Short stretch and strength, kids were here for supper.

Saturday Dec 17, 2016 #

Walking 30:00 [1]

Ten minutes of snow shovelling and then a short walk around the neighbourhood. Very sloppy footing with the new snow. Legs complained a lot. Good stretch and strength afterwards.

Thursday Dec 15, 2016 #

Stationary Bike 47:00 [2]

Really wanted a long walk today but it's -34 with the wind chill. So back on the bike with the music cranked up and watching CNN on cc. Legs were aching after 20 minutes. Felt better afterwards. Needed the circulation boost.
Weight is hanging around 157. Should be 155. I was there just 3 weeks ago!

Cycling 35:00 [1]

Been feeling lousy/tired for the last few days. Some short walks but nothing you would call exercise. Finally jumped on the bike for a decent spin. Good stretch and strength (15 min) afterwards. Hip is ok. Shoulder is actually more of a bother. Not sleeping very well.

Sunday Dec 11, 2016 #

Walking 38:00 [1]

Planned to do the 5K loop but the hip started complaining, including the injection site, so I turned around early. I will try for a full hour tomorrow and depending on the conditions, maybe a short ski.

Thursday Dec 8, 2016 #

Note

Injection for the hip today and the glutes seized up. Could hardly walk.
Painful enough that concentrating on jobs or even reading was difficult. Lots of Advil and Netflix movies (fast-forwarded) to pass the time.

Wednesday Dec 7, 2016 #

Walking 1:03:00 [1]

Another poor nights sleep so I dragged my butt around all morning. After a post-lunch nap I hit the road in the relatively mild weather. Tired now but feeling better. Get a shot in the hip tomorrow so the activity level will be down for a few days.

Tuesday Dec 6, 2016 #

Walking 40:00 [1]

Yesterday was a write-off with the gimpy back. Felt better today so I was able comfortably complete an easy walk and good stretch.
First it was fruit cake, now it's rum balls! The inevitable is happening - I am back on my roller coaster weight ride. Hide the bagels!

Sunday Dec 4, 2016 #

Stationary Bike 45:00 [1]

Good spin watching the football and listening to Cheryl Crow's Central Park album. Felt good afterwards but while stretching my back popped. Another bad nights sleep. Very stiff today. What the heck! Now my back feels worse than my shoulder that feels worse than my hip. Just planning a light walk and stretch today - Monday.

Saturday Dec 3, 2016 #

Walking 58:00 [1]

Hiked over to the local post office to pick up registered mail - a speeding ticket! Otherwise a nice hike in fair weather. Very stiff adductors afterwards.

Friday Dec 2, 2016 #

Walking 40:00 [1]

A brisk walk across the neighbourhood in the cold but dry weather. Good stretch and strength after. Well, some shoulder moves had to be shortened due to stiffness and pain. Needed 3 Advil to get through last night. But I did get a reasonable rest. Weight at 157.

Mapping 40:00 [1]

Been really tired the last few days. Rotator cuff aches all night keeping me awake until a new pill kicks in. Massage yesterday probably made it flare up. So a short walk at Nakkertok to check out a newly cut trail was all I felt like doing today. Good stretch afterwards.
Back to the physio next week and back to the sports med clinic for another shot of Hyaluronic acid (monovisk) in the hip. The hip hasn't deteriorated over the summer, this will be a "preventative" shot - I hope - before the ski season starts.
