Event: ELO SoSOL

11 AM

Walking warm up/down (To start) 5:00 [4] 0.5 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: INOV8

Orienteering race (SoSOL Gullane) 1:28:18 [4] *** 8.15 km (10:50 / km) +220m 9:33 / km
spiked:22/28c shoes: INOV8

Overall navigation not too bad and a very enjoyable course. Although, leaving control 19 I started to feel my legs deciding they had had enough running which was aggrevated by any soft sand I ran on with my ankles not too happy.

1. What a disaster! Was sure I knew what was going on, ran off down the narrow track and somehow I confused myself and ran along the track past 1 to the right thinking I was at the main track that comes down from the start. Such a simple leg... 5minutes 50!!!!!

3. A bit of hovering around about 50metres down from the control.

8. My memory of 8 is sketchy but I think it was this control I was hovering on top of the hill knowing I was in the right place but couldnt see any control down there. Checked out the dip to the left before realising the control was behind a tree (if memory serves)

11. Little unconfident running here, cut straight across. Found the control alright though.

17. Bit of a mess. About 100metres north east hunting around before realising I hadn't gone far enough. Then once in the area I was hovering up the hill- control was at the bottom in the reentrant/depression.

Orienteering race (Sprint) 23:13 [4] *** 2.7 km (8:36 / km)
spiked:19/23c shoes: Fila Turin II

Little bit dissapointed overall with my run here. Overall navigation was good and I was making decisions quickly whilst on the move most of the time but I just wasn't fit enough to run faster. Became quite tired by the end. So much extra distance going around the buildings!

1. Only real mistake here. Ran off too quickly without actually checking what was happening and finished up trying to approach the control from the start side and finished up going down anyway to check in hope if I could get through! Lost around a minute here. The light grey is what I must have glanced and saw.

6. Glanced down the alley and didn't see the control despite knowing it should be there. Ran on down the steps before running back. 20-30s.

14. Took a bit of a fall going down into the control, around a quarter of the way down I decided to head dive and finished up at the bottom. Good thing that the plants that tripped me up were soft as well!

As for the body- by the time I had finished my calves were crying, not through 'injury' (although walking to the car I got some transient pain that felt like a pulled muscle) just through fatigue. Might start running a few small hill to build up these muscles a bit.
