NAOC Long Course. Not much of an effort by Mac - 12 min. parallel error on 2nd control. Ironically, I chose a trail to make it a "safe" route, but chose the wrong trail. Broke my magnifier off my compass and lost it on the way to #4, and generally sloppy all day. Lots of folks had difficulty, however, and I finished 2nd, 27 seconds out of 1st. On the bright side, I felt and feel just fine, no physical or medical issues; and am perhaps less decrepit than others my age. Not sure about buying/finding another magnifier - it's annoying in some ways; and extremely helpful once in awhile, especially for me in looking at the control circle. I thought the Event was very well done, folks were friendly, good visuals on the finish. Blinking cruise control light and steady on check engine light for the last 200 miles or so of the 480 mile ride home was concerning but apparently a "solenoid" non-issue of some sort. Great carpool partner and coach.

NAOC 2014. Easier courses than the model event yesterday, which had me terrified enough to slow down early. Made no major errors, but a number of 30 second and 1 minute slowdowns. Read a spur as a reentrant (but was on target). Tomorrow will be harder, with longer legs and less of an opportunity to relocate. Happy with this. Sandy provided good advice pre-race about what to expect and a likely strategy. Much to be humble about.
