Orienteering race (OK Nuts Winterfold) 1:12:41 [4] *** 8.1 km (8:58 / km) +245m 7:48 / km
spiked:9/15c

Just completed travel, parking, changing, bussing, toilet, clothing dump, warm up arrangements in time, so barely had a moment to think about my back. Took a chance on just one ibuprofen, though, as a week’s relative rest had left me feeling a bit stronger. In the event the race went ok, as my navigation was fairly secure (no mistakes on winsplits) and I ran quite well. I felt pretty cautious in the terrain, but managed an 8th fastest split on the tricky (make or break) long leg 10, which is a real reason to be more confident going forward. I lost bits of time on the first four, mostly through hesitation about route, although 2 (which gave all the problems at the Harvester 2014) cost me time because of poor mapping (if you ask me, anyway). Got going for the stretch after that through 11, although I missed the obvious path route to 7 because I rushed out of 6 on a bearing. Grossly over simplified for second long leg to 12 and missed a shorter route nearer the line (about 60 secs). Probably lost about 5 mins all told, which would have given a decent result, but I’m still a long way off full tilt. I’m getting quicker again though, which is the main thing.
