Orienteering race (SN Trophy, Long Valley N) 1:16:27 [4] *** 8.4 km (9:06 / km) +170m 8:16 / km
spiked:13/21c weight:70kg

Lower back was worrying so took TWO ibuprofen and felt the relaxation occur on the drive to Farnborough. It affected the run inasmuch as I was vulnerable throughout but didn’t give me a problem as such. In fact I had a sound-ish run although some careless slips made through lack of practice cost me about 5 mins and 8 places and lack of attack about 6 more places. 1 was ok but I underestimated technicality of 2 and 3 and just ran and then had to relocate twice. Got it together a bit on the long leg 5 and was competent through to 10 even though I overshot 8. Was careless heading into 12 and relieved to find it, then started to lose the battle with the vegetation at 16. Splits show how fatigue and frustration cost me small but significant amounts of time from here on. Perhaps I need to pace myself when o-ing in the way we sensibly do when racing? Biggest mistake was 18 (no attackpoint). So I got 75 mins of slightly distracted exercise in, but wasn’t really running or orienteering well. I’ll take comfort from the fact I was running ‘up’ and it went ok.

Headlamp died on the way home (after 18 years) so had to buy a new LED one. With different batteries, grrr.
