Trail race race (Chichester parkrun) 21:59 [5] 5.0 km (4:24 / km) +50m 4:11 / km

Differences from last week: 1) strong winds and mud 2) new trail shoes 3) back ever so slightly better (less wine?), and 4) real effort made all week to prevent eye drops going down nose and onto chest (none taken last night). Result: didn't mind the adverse conditions and feel genuinely encouraged by this week's effort. Key thing was that chest never tightened to the extent it has recently, even during warm up. It did to begin with but then sort of relaxed. Consequence was I felt able to push on with a bit more confidence on the hills on second and third lap. And I found myself thinking about breathing and nothing else when I upped the effort. Which I know from experience is the right way to feel. Big boost. Finally able to think seriously about a winter 10k and next year's Corp Challenge. New shoes were perfect and coped with slippy mud, and I finished a second or two behind Fay C.

Braved the morning drizzle because of frustration with yesterday's puncture.
