Hankley Common. Feeling a bit more positive, because my back was looser and I’ve had a bit of practice now. Plus this is one of my favourite areas. Started careful for first three so I wouldn’t be caught, and the feel that ‘I could do this’ encouraged me to stay focussed. Plan had been to use paths and tracks where poss, but after leg 9 along the slope the open forest became irresistible. 12 to 17 were Orienteering at its best, ie thoughtful planning. Messed up easy 18 because I couldn’t see it in the ditch it was mapped in, but it had been hidden. 2 mins lost but who really cares. Otherwise good. Very enjoyable morning.
