| Orienteering 8:00 [2] | ||
| Warm-up in the woods and along the trail. | ||
| Orienteering 1:24:22 [4]8.09 km (10:26 / km) +285m 8:52 / km | ||

| Return to Water Gap, Red Day 2. These woods weren't as nice as I'd remembered, or the course setter just took us through greener areas. The course crossed through a green area twice, and it wasn't very nice -- both visibility and runnability were impaired -- and that was no fun. Foot definitely was hurting by the second half but I was able to run okay anyway. Blew the first control, lost about 3 min or so. Then had no real plan going to #3 and got hung up in the crappy green. did better after that. Ted Good caught me at #10; I kept him in sight for all of #11 (my best split?), saw him when he was leaving #12, and beat him to #13. But he then passed me and beat me to the finish. The last several controls were reminiscent of the US Champs course. A bit cooler, humid, less hilly than Saturday. Light rain started just after I finished. Not a great way to end the season, but not a disaster. | ||

Saturday Nov 1 | ||
| Orienteering 1:28:38 [4]7.41 km (11:58 / km) +390m 9:28 / km | ||
| spiked:7/12c | ||
| Return to Water Gap Day 1 Red. Hilly, warm. I think the legs 7-8 and 8-9 could have been changed to avoid the huge climb out of 8. Most of us would have prefered that! Small errors at #3, 8, & 11; larger one (about 3 min) at 9 -- drifted too far down the hill and overshot to the next spur. Not an awful run, but nothing impressive. Foot didn't bother me running. | ||
| Trail 10:00 [3] | ||
| Warm up for o' race along old trail. Quite lovely. Warming up foot especially. It didn't feel as bad as I expected. | ||
| Orienteering 8:48 [3]1 km (8:48 / km) +30m 7:39 / km | ||
| US Team 1 Kilometer Challenge & Fundraiser. I had no intention of running this, but I donated $5 and accepted a map since I'd essentially paid for it. Then I saw Nadim's slow time (he got thrown off by the scale and was way off on #1) and I got to thinking it would be kind of fun to just jog around the course. I had already changed, was wearing my regular shoes & was otherwise not prepared to run, but I decided to "jog" it. I didn't quite jog but I also didn't run hard. Needed to keep my shoes dry so I had to go around some marshy and otherwise wet areas. Got more torn up than during the real race. Kind of fun. | ||

| Hiking 30:00 [1] | ||
| From the shuttle drop off to National Geographic and back. Foot vacillates between feeling just fine to crippling pain. I know orienteering on it this weekend certainly won't help it. Even n. tracking last night hurt it -- afterwards it really hurt and I iced it for a half hour +. Not much cross-training I can do that doesn't involve the foot (not much for swimming; deep-water running would be a good option but it's such a bore). Perhaps some yoga, but that won't keep me fit. Ack.
The house update, for those of you paying attention: our counter-offer to our prospective buyer (giving us a max of 60 days to find a "home of choice") was rejected. So, back to no contract, keeping the house clean, and another Open House this Sunday. No buyer, no houses to buy...we'll just go into a rest mode and do a little o'. (Perhaps 60 days is too long for an HOC contingency...?) | ||
Wednesday Oct 29 | ||
| Nordic Track 39:07 [3] | ||
| After work; home after dark. House roller coaster...we've got a counter-offer in to our potential buyer; meanwhile the house we most like is taken (just) (a long up-and-down saga) and several others we looked at and liked (and I, at least, could live in) also just got under contract. Getting to the slower period now, not as many listings coming up. A bit depressing. (Ok, more than a bit.) | ||
Monday Oct 27 | ||
| Note | ||
| Massage today (ahhhh :-) so no training. Perhaps nothing tomorrow, either, as we've got an offer on the house (yay!) and our realtor is coming over in the evening to present it to us (or just to me if Nadim has to work late again). (I was looking for an excuse to miss track practice...) We should be staying home this weekend and getting a new house...but the Water Gap calls us... | ||
