| QOC, Bowie State/Patuxent River. Beautiful weather, warm (low 60s) and sunny. The woods were drier than expected, but as thorny as ever. Ouch. "Ran" Blue. Lots of controls (25) but also several longish trail runs -- nearly impossible to avoid in Bowie unless you have 50 controls. Made a couple mistakes, most notably 11 where I crossed a small stream thinking it was one of the larger ones & thus ended up in the wrong place. Mostly, navigation was okay, just had no zip to run and so went slowly. Plus in the green I went very slowly. Fun anyway. | ||

| Road run (paved bike trail) 50:35 [4]6.0 mi (8:25 / mi) | ||
| Rock Creek Trail from Ken-Gar to mile 4 & return. I'd thought about doing mile or half-mile repeats but with my sore joints, I thought that didn't make sense. So instead I did the regular 6 miles, but I ended up going much faster than planned. The first mile felt pretty good, catching and hanging behind Dan (who had not checked the weather beforehand, and was running in a tee shirt & shorts and no gloves), but I didn't feel like running with someone I didn't know. So first I tried to hang back a bit, then when I finally caught him (around 1.25 miles) I just maintained my pace and slowly pulled away. Then it became clear I was speeding up and the first three miles were successively faster. So I decided to make it a game and see if I could continue to get faster. I did! Yay. Did feel like work the last 2 miles, though.
The cool weather, I think, helped me run a bit faster than usual, plus perhaps the fact that I'd already been awake for 5 hours when I ran. Around 40 degrees, sunny; first run of the season with gloves, long pants, & ear band. Splits: 9:11, 8:43, 8:17, 8:16, 8:09, 7:58.

| (injured) | ||
| Was thinking of doing some Nordic Tracking, but my knee (left), especially, hurt too much to do anything. It really hurt to go up stairs (so perhaps NTing would have been okay...), or lift my knee up too much.
Was it the run yesterday? Or the 2+ hours in rush-hour traffic after that (with a stick shift ...)? Probably the latter. It wasn't a fun driving experience.

| Trail 37:40 [3] | ||
| Trails in Great Falls, MD. In the early afternoon after another early shift at work. Thought it was going to be warmer so I brought a short-sleeved shirt; it was chillier than expected and I thought about bagging it because of that but I really needed a run. Ankle and knees all hurt, argh.
Started on the towpath, hoping for some sun action to warm me up, then at the closed area I detoured through the woods (logged separately). Across on the foot bridge to the uplands section and a nice trail loop back to the car.
| Woods run 12:00 [3] | ||
| Bear Island, Gr. Falls, MD. Detouring around the closed part of the towpath. Drifted towards the river and ran a bit on the trail overlooking the gorge. Was struck by how nice the woods were: ground vegetation low, spiderwebs gone, water features nicely filled but not overflowing, rocks still there. It was fun, but I was wearing my running shoes and so I did have to go slowly to keep from hurting my stupid ankle any more. | ||

| Nordic Track 31:52 [3] | ||
| A little nordic tracking in the afternoon (working an early-morning shift this week, whee). Rainy and chilly out and my ankle & knee still hurt -- ankle even bothered me tracking -- so staying inside was preferable.
Finished up the latest issue of Adoptive Families.
