| Batona 500 Day 1, Red. Gorgeous day. Loved the woods (well, a few fewer blueberry bushes might have been nice). An error enroute to #5 (2 min maybe) and a small one at #15 were my only problems.
2nd F but well behind Pavlina & only 5 sec ahead of Yekaterina.
Day 1 Red - Splits | ||
Friday Nov 10 | ||
| Hiking 1:45:00 [2] | ||
| With Max & Nadim at Blockhouse Point Cons. Park. A gorgeous day for a family outing. Nadim had some fieldchecking things he wanted to check out, so we went along. Max happily hiked on his own for 20 minutes (examining all sorts of things on the way, of course) before tiring and wanting to go in the backpack. After about 40 min of that he wanted to walk again but we didn't let him until we were close to the car. Mostly trail (muddy down by the canal) but we did go down a steep wooded hill, Nadim with Max in the carrier! I wouldn't have wanted to do that.
Very nice time. Warm (70?), sunny.

| Woods run 1:00:57 [3] | ||
| OMG, could you ask for a nicer day?? Upper 60s, not a cloud in the sky, a light breeze, and still lots of colorful leaves around! Just fantastic.
As expected, we got out two hours early from work :-) and I was prepared for a run in the woods. Great Falls, MD, of course, but this time I went to the north end, the Ford Gold Mine area. I figured I'd do a loop there and then cross the street into the main part, but I ended up spending all my time in FGM. It's been a long time since I've run in that area and I have forgotten how nice it is! I wanted to run for an hour, just because. Because the area is pretty narrow, I figured I'd basically run north for a half hour and then run back south. Lots of zig-zagging to enjoy some nice patches of woods. I ended up a coupld spurs past where the map (which I didn't have with me) ends. We should extend the map, even though there aren't many point features or much else, just nice hilly woods. This wasn't very specific to this weekend's terrain -- hilly, very little undergrowth, some rocks, deep reentrants with streams. But it was the woods, and I haven't done much running in the woods since the Highlander, so that was good. All in all, a great run.

| Nordic Track 41:44 [3] | ||
| Was planning to run after work, doing some sort of speedier stuff. I was hoping the rain would hold off until later, but it was raining when I got off work. And it felt chilly. I'd felt kind of sick to my stomach all afternoon -- another reason to bag running. (I felt like I was nervous for something in my immediate future, but I was researching archaeological sites in NW South America, so how nervous should I have been?)
I decided to Nordic Track at home instead. Drove to my polling place, then home to Track, then to pick up Max. Took a couple Tums before tracking, which seemed to help. Read Psychology Today.
