Event: Sprint Series Final & US Relay Champs

Trail warm up/down 15:00 [2]
Before each of the sprints I jogged around the field, with occasional short pick-ups. Felt a bit slow but better the longer I jogged.
Orienteering race (sprint) 18:36 [5]*** 1.71 km (10:53 / km) +33m 9:55 / km
WCOC Sprint A, Cranbury Park, somewhere in Connecticut.
Wow, the scale was different. It didn't throw me off terribly, but I was constantly surprised that everything was coming up so fast.
Two big errors: missed # 4, hitting the field above it and coming back to the woods very close but overshooting down the hill (okay, I guess that was scale related). Seemed thicker in the area than mapped. Other error was heading up the hill from #8 at a wrong angle & hitting #`10. Had to run against traffic to #9.
So, overall, not a great run. I was a bit surprised, therefore, to lead the other women on the OBG course.
PERFECT setup for an o' meet, with the start & finish close to the hanging-out area, a large pavilion, and the playground & parking, flush toilets, and a beautiful setting. Plus the coolest tree I've seen in ages.
Orienteering race (sprint) 15:19 [5]*** 1.83 km (8:22 / km) +40m 7:33 / km
WCOC's Sprint B. Same location as Sprint A, but nicer part of the park. Many more white woods. Really quite delightful to run in. I spiked #1 and had a pretty clean run. Dean Sturdevant caught me early on anyway, making up his 30 second stagger. We were close the rest of the way. Saw Dave Onkst a bunch; he blew the first control and had some other problems later. I knew, when I was seeing him so often, that he would not be happy with his race.
I was much happier with this race than the first, but my lack of training showed, as I finished 2nd woman on the OBG course, behind Susie. She was 17 seconds ahead of me; Natalia Babeti was 4 seconds behind me. Luckily, neither were in my age category :-) (which, sadly, I had to myself -- rare these days for F45).
Started sprinkling as I finished.

Pilates 50:00 [2]
First day of session. Two newbies.
So it was relatively easy, though I may find some sore bits tomorrow. Core work isn't my forte, unless I'm paying for it.

Thursday Sep 20

Cross training (recumbent exercise bike) 47:00 [2]
At lunchtime, in the new gym. Read Adoptive Families mag. CNN was on the telly, all about OJ again. Is he stupid or what?
C • Stupid 6
Weights 5:00 [3]
Used 10 lb and 5 lb weights for various arm exercises.
Trail 45:53
After work I went to Scotts Run Nature Preserve for a nice little trail run. I grabbed my o' shoes this morning instead of my running shoes (same bags) but that was okay since the trail is pretty rocky/rooty/hilly. My planned route was changed when I found myself having missed what I've always considered an obvious trail junction; when I came back to it, I realized there was a tree down across the junction so it was pretty hard to see.
Threw in a couple hill sprints up some good hills. Otherwise, I was going fairly easily. Foot felt okay. I'm not quite ready to say it's healed, though, as it definitely hurt earlier this week following Saturday's run. But, it's probably 85-90%. Yay!

Tuesday Sep 18

Note
(rest day)
First day of Pilates, but I had an office meeting that started halfway through the class that I didn't want to miss, so I skipped out on Pilates. Had planned to go to the gym before that & work out on my own, but it was a weird day at work and the timing didn't work out.

More software problems, too ... our computer dude installed a software upgrade for our very important Illustrator plug-in, and removed the old version. Unfortunately, I am the one person in the office using the older version of Illustrator (because CS2 couldn't handle my file :-( ), and the upgraded version of MapPublisher doesn't work with CS1. I felt forgotten ... And I couldn't do anything all day.

Monday Sep 17

Cross training (recumbent exercise bike) 47:00 [2]
At lunchtime. Someone had The Price is Right on tv --- ack!
Read Running Times.
Weights 5:00 [2]
Back to 8 lbs, 5 lbs for side raises.

Sunday Sep 16

Hiking 1:00:00 [1]
Walked with Max from home to downtown Bethesda, where the MCRRC Parks Half Marathon was finishing. Really nice finish setup, and a perfect day for a long race. Made me want to run a race! I run on the last few miles of the race course (Georgetown Branch Trail) a lot, as it borders our neighborhood, and when we (used to) run with the club on Saturday mornings, I'd do several more miles of the course.
I saw a few people from our running club, but didn't see Valerie. After listening to the live band for a while, Max said he was hungry so we went to the Barnes & Noble cafe (the line at the bagel place was toooo long); had a great view of the race finish but it was all over by then.
Pushed Max in his car both there and back; he only wanted to stop to get out a dozen or so times, and was always happy to get back in. Very unusual, though welcome. Played a "keep quiet" game with some kids whom he befriended along the way. He kept losing (but he didn't really understand all the rules).
