| Summer Short Series at Fort Hunt Park. Nadim made a new map of this park in the last several weeks, and this was the unveiling. Small crowd (Jon T, the Merkas, Keg, the Maces, me); maybe we'll use it again this summer. It's really good sprint terrain, I thought.
Since this was the first time I've run in over two weeks, I kept the pace quite slow. My ankle bone was stinging for a while; obviously a result of yesterday's treatment, but I don't know exactly what caused that. Never felt like that before! Otherwise it felt okay, until about 30 min in when my arch started to ache. Not bad. We'll see how it recovers. As I was walking to the start I heard an announcemnet that the moonbounce (there was some sort of public event going on) was closing in a few minutes because a thunderstorm was coming. Not unexpected, but I was hoping to escape it. Luckily, I got through the whole course before the rain came, but just barely. Mark, Patti, Dasa, and Keg got caught in a pretty heavy (but brief) downpour. I enjoyed the course & the area; the fort ruins are different from anything I've seen (recently? the memory isn't as good as it used to be...). Lots of vegetation to read and a couple route choices. Good stuff. Kissy missed out. ;-)

| Acupuncture today. Very different experience from what I've had before. First, the office is very professional, looking more like a nice upscale doctor's office. The treatment was much more intense & serious, too. My previous acupuncturist was an older woman, very motherly, and sessions with her were almost like visiting a therapist. She always took my pulse at the beginning & end, checking my chi, and treating me accordingly. There was none of that new-age stuff today. I had to disrobe & put on one of those lovely paper dresses, like being at the doctor's, and lay face down. I was told that they treat the shoulders/neck of everyone who comes in for the first time, as nearly everyone needs it (I am no exception; that's where I hold my stress, and sitting in front of a computer all day doesn't help). So besides my ankle, they worked on my shoulders/neck & upper back. I got massage, cupping, accupressure, and of course needles. There were at least two people working on me at times. They really worked the ankle hard -- it hurt for a while afterwards. At the end the guy put a special bandage over my ankle bone; it has a weird Chinese-medicine smell that is rather pungent. I'm sure everyone was looking at me & wondering wherever I went.
I was told the treatment would take 1 1/2 hours but it was closer to 2. And I am to go back twice next week (possibly the next week as well, which will be harder with Nadim out of town; guess lots of SL is in my future!). I'm cautiously optimistic. I might try jogging Nadim's Summer Short Series event tomorrow.

Wednesday Jun 11 | ||
| Hiking 10:00 [1] | ||
| Quilt meeting over lunchtime (I ran it as the Pres was in a class); errands after work. Walked around the block with Max while waiting for some buyers to look at the house (no-shows; when I finally got exasperated & went inside, I found a message saying they weren't going to make it tonight).
Beautiful day & evening, still warm but not hot, very low humidity, not a cloud in the sky. Can't ask for better.

| Cross training (recumbent exercise bike) 52:00 [2] | ||
| Started reading the latest Running Times. Fun to see Lyn's name as a top age-grouper! So awesome, and so much faster than I am (at least right now...)! | ||
| Note | ||
| Tired of the conventional medicine not working, I just made an appointment with an acupuncturist for this Friday. I used to see an acupuncturist regularly (for a variety of things; started for my knees on the recommendation of my running coach), but haven't for a few years. I'm hopeful that this will help. Can't hurt (except monetarily, but it's worth trying). Yay! Needles! | ||

| Biking in the gym. When I came in, the tv was turned *off*. Weird! But okay, because the one in the smaller room had Fox on. Halfway through my workout someone did turn on the tv, and it was back to Fox. Some place is flooding. It took a good ten minutes before they actually mentioned where it was for those of us who tuned in late. Milwaukee, I believe. Hope my childhood home was spared. | ||
