Trail (fieldchecking) 1:33:05 [1]5.77 mi (16:07 / mi)
Jogging the trails (all of them, even the little out-and-backs) at Carderock, wearing Nadim's FR305, as a start to mapping the area. I did a bunch of fieldchecking a few years ago (before Max), but I could find only a small bit on my hard drive. I hope more of it is around somewhere, but at least now I'll have a really good base map & that should make things go faster. I had a horrible base before.
Love this area, especially the west end where the rockclimbers convene (not where they climb, though, just that area between the parking lot & the river, which is very New England-y). Warm & very humid; I was dripping within minutes.
Ankle isn't much better & I definitely noticed it. It doesn't hurt too much, just some aching, letting me know it's still not recovered. Still, it was nice to run (well, jog, really) some. I walked up most of the hills.

Note
We have an offer on the house (YAY); unfortunately it's really low (BOO). So we have to decide if we should accept it. Sounds like they wouldn't be able to go up much. But it definitely affects what we can afford to buy.

Biking 1:14:50 [2]
We biked to Panera Bread in Rockville, stopped for a few hours for bagels, beverages, other yummy foods, and conversation with our MCRRC friends; then biked back, stopping at a very small playground so Max could run around a bit.
Already very warm at 9:15, plus quite humid. There was a dark cloud in the west when we set off, and I was concerned we'd get dumped on by a storm. Luckily, that didn't happen; in fact, the sun came out and made it hotter.
I still don't believe people were meant to be attached to their bicycles.

Nadim & I walked to Round House Theater for an evening out. Bob & Ben watched Max (their homestudy is now complete, just waiting to get it for edits). They had already seen the play, "Nixon's Nixon," and highly recommended it. Since it was showing only through Sunday (already an extended run), we took them up on their offer to babysit while we got some culture. Excellent play with only two actors. Very political, of course, with amazing parallels to the current situation (but the play was written in 1999 so it's not intentional). Initially our seats weren't together, but before the start, an usher came by to tell the couple sitting next to me that she had different (better? they're all good) seats for them, and as they were leaving I asked the usher if this meant the seats would be empty & thus my hubby could join me. Yes on both accounts, so we ended up sitting together.
We were prepared for rain on the way back, but the rain came through while we were in the theater. Treated to a lightning show, though.

Hiking 15:00 [2]
Max & I walked a few blocks to pick up the trolley bus that circulates free around downtown Bethesda; we took it several blocks to get closer to the movie theater. Then we enjoyed seeing Wall-e (Max did quite well with it, though there was a lot he didn't understand). The theater is enlightened and has booster seats for kids--who knew?--some woman coming out when we were waiting to go in handed it to him. Besides raising him up a bit, it kept the chair from being able to fold in on him. He was most excited about getting to eat popcorn.
When we came out, it clearly had rained, and looked like it might again. Luckily it didn't (at least before we were home), but I made sure we moved at a good clip--Max actually was running a lot of the time--and didn't dawdle. A fun outing.

(sick)
Yeah, you know, I planned to bring clothes for a lunchtime workout, but in the busy-ness of getting Max up, fed, clothed, & ready to go to daycare, it just slipped through the gaping holes. So I took another day off. And tomorrow will be another one... What can I say.

My right hand is very sore from work - moving every 10th grid tick to another layer. I'm about 2/3rds through that process, and I have already moved over 4100 ticks. I can hear your gasps of envy.

Feeling better, went back to work, but decided I'd take another day off from working out. So I did.

A Max & "tick" story: last night after his bath I noticed a tick (large wood tick) on Max's shoulder. I inwardly freaked out, but calmly told him I had to remove the tick & got the tweezers. He got very upset about that, not being a fan of tweezers or clippers or anything he think might hurt him, and that worked me up a bit, but I insisted I had to get the tick off. As I started prodding it with the tweezers, I couldn't find where the head was/where it wasn't attached. The light wasn't the best, and I tried to get more light on it, but he was squirming and crying so I figured I should just do the best I could. I grabbed an edge & pulled ... and off came a scab. Of course then I felt awful for putting him (and me) through all that drama. Poor kid is already covered with scabs -- he might have impetigo (saw doctor yesterday & got a prescription but the doctor didn't tell me his diagnosis, annoyingly; guess I need to be more proactive & ASK). I did a tiny bit of googling today and saw one thing that related impetigo and strep, which I already am quite sure he is a carrier of because he's spread it to me twice. The prescription should take care of both issues, the doctor said.
Maybe without the crusty, scabby blisters I won't be seeing ticks everywhere.

Meanwhile, back at work, I continued deleting (grid) ticks ... I just can't get away from the buggers. (I *finished* deleting them today, and now I'm in the process of separating out the 10-minute ticks so I can [very slowly & tediously] change the length of them. Wow, aren't you jealous of my life?)

Dr. confirmed: strep throat. Just in time for a week of single motherhood! Yay!
