| The bad Flip This House house is under contract. Good luck to the buyers. | ||
| Note | ||
| We took Max mini golfing for the first time today. He was enthusiastic, and occasionally held the club correctly and hit the ball well. Not bad for a 3 1/2 year old rookie.
Nadim beat me soundly. :-( I was well off my game today, though I started off with a par & then two holes-in-one. Humid, overcast.

| (rest day) | ||
| We were going to bike to the bagel place again, but it was misting when I got up and raining lightly but steadily in the morning. So we just drove instead.
In the afternoon, our realtor took us to see five houses we wanted to see (two that I'd seen with her husband on Wednesday that I thought were worth considering and wanted Nadim to see). There was one brand new to the market that I was especially excited to see (location=great; family room+kitchen addition; beautiful backyard; low price). Of course it didn't live up to my hopes. It's a nice house, just has some issues (like a tiny third bedroom, no master bath, and no easy way to expand the house). Still, a nice house that I think will sell this week. The best houses were the two I'd seen before. Our realtor, who told us she doesn't show houses much any more (her husband usually handles that part) because she's so opinionated (and she is...), agreed that those two were good houses and she thinks we'd be happy in either. The smaller one is in a better school district and much closer to work for me. The other one has been beautifully renovated & has a huge yard. And it's a lot cheaper. But further out (outside the Beltway! Ack!). Both are in nice neighborhoods. Don't have to decide now; in fact our realtor is very uncomfortable writing an offer until we pass the home inspection so she knows our deal doesn't fall through on the selling end.

| Trail 52:02 [2] | ||
| Lake Fairfax Park. Nadim suggested taking Max to the water park in this park, which is close to my in-laws (where we were going for a birthday celebration/lunch afterwards). Water fun doesn't much appeal to me, so I brought my running clothes and went for an easy trail run while they were playing. I had lots of time so I ran what constitutes a long run for me these days. After rounding the lake, I went up the hill & through the campground (Nadim & I both had the same thought: sometime later this summer we should camp here, as Max's first experience of sleeping outside). Once I picked up the trail from the campground, I was in the woods, and mostly alone (saw one hiking couple & a slow mountain biker passed me). The trails were pretty nice, and the woods looked really great.
It wasn't too hot yet and even in the woods I could feel a breeze. The park was very crowded with holidaying people, but the woods were blissfully quiet and peaceful. Yes, ankle was a bit achy.

| Trail 26:24 | ||
| We got let out of work 3 hours early :-) so, after a bit of window shopping at the mall, I stopped at Scotts Run for some nice trail running. I really did not want to go long, aiming for 20 minutes. I'm trying to build back up very slowly, so I don't aggrevate my ankle any worse than I have to. The park is fairly hilly, so I had to work a bit harder than I perhaps wanted to, but it was fun anyway. When I hit 20 minutes, I stopped & walked. | ||

| Note | ||
| We sold our house. We counteroffered for a big 5k over their offer, and they accepted so fast it made my head spin. I was out with our realtor looking at houses when we got the word; we went directly from house hunting to his office (well, he dropped me off at the daycare & Max & I walked back to his office, where Nadim already was) for paperwork. We then had a celebratory dinner at UNOs (it would have been McD's if Max had had his way -- about the right level of celebration, actually, given the loss we're taking -- we did stop there afterwards to get milkshakes).
Mixed emotions, because I love this house & area, and because we're losing money. The realtor & I went to 5 houses, well, 4 inside, and they were all very nice. We just have to decide what we're willing to compromise on (location being the biggest one). The search is on for real now.

| Cross training (recumbent exercise bike) 42:00 [3] | ||
| Back to my "normal" workout: recumbent exercise biking in the gym at lunchtime. MSNBC was on the tv (how enlightened! but the volume was turned down); read Mother Jones. Article on the whole house foreclosure & related stuff; not uplifting when we're in the midst of selling/buying houses. | ||
| Weights (dumbbells) 5:00 [2] | ||
| A bit of weight work for my hands, wrists, shoulders. My hand has been very sore from computer work. My massage therapist worked it well but it's still sore. Should recover soon & the repetitive stuff on my map is done for a while. | ||

| (rest day) | ||
| I brought my clothes for a lunchtime workout, but I forgot my shoes. Can't workout in my slip ons. (This must happen more often than I'd like to believe...) So, I took a rest day. Because, of course, I've been training so hard that I needed one.
Massage after work. When he was done, my therapist said "Try not to run two days in a row!" Evidently I was very tight & knotted up. Still thinking about the not-very-good offer on the house. We saw a house last night with our realtor that looked promising: in our neighborhood, a cool old Victorian/colonial with a big porch & a garage & larger yard than we have. But it was like a bad episode of Flip This House, where the flippers don't know what they're doing and do a lot of things wrong, make poor decisions, and then don't bother finishing the job before putting the house on the market. Nadim estimated the house would need another $100k to finish/fix. Not worth the effort & agony. Fireworks at our local park tonight. Max was pretty excited about it.

| Trail 23:15 [3]2.15 mi (10:48 / mi) | ||
| Went to Rock Creek Park & parked at the parking lot at the DC/MD boundary. Out & back on the trail -- uphill a whole lot at first, and at the turnaround. My goal was to run about 2 miles in about 20 minutes, but given that I was on a trail & am in less than stellar shape, I knew that might be a bit of a stretch. Didn't do too bad. Short, supposed to be easy, run. Felt pretty good, too, though I did notice my ankle a bit.
Not as hot and humid as yesterday. Raining now but it was dry (air, at least; trail was muddy in most places but only in the center) when I ran. Good way to counteract all the M&Ms I ate today (partly to keep me awake, partly to get me through the grids, partly to celebrate finishing the grids :-).
