| Fieldchecking 2:30:00 [1]** | ||
| I was too drained from Saturday's training to get up as early as I would have liked. When Max woke up at 6:40, doing his I'm awake Mommy come get me chant, I got up. I convinced Max to go back to sleep (Nadim said he slept until after 8). Got my stuff organized, stopped at CVS for a clipboard (not my normal fieldchecking technique, but my usual stuff is packed away), and drove to Carderock. I'd spent time Saturday night extracting the Lidar contours Jon T sent me & added them to my base, struggling to get them to fit right. Same situation with the GPS tracks for the trails I jogged a couple weeks ago (Nadim had already added them in, fitting them pretty well). I did the best I could and figured it was still better than anything I had before.
I discovered that I still need to adjust both the contours & trails, but not uniformly (which is of course my favorite kind of adjustments [NOT]). The woods were still fairly cool when I got out around 8; bugs non-existant (perhaps due to the bug repellent bracelet I was wearing). It would have been a quite pleasant outing if I were better at fieldchecking. Although I've fieldchecked several (parts of) maps in the past 25 years, I've never gotten very confident in it; it's almost always a struggle. I wasn't helped by not really remembering how to use Nadim's GPS watch nor not having north lines on the map. I carried my baseplate compass with me but without the north lines it was mostly useless. The other frustrating thing was that I have already fieldchecked this area before, but I can't find my work. A hard copy is definitely packed away, but what has happened to the softcopy?? By 10:30 I was ready to call it a day. Then home for a quick shower, then off house hunting. Met our realtor to see one house that I didn't think was going to be open (it was, but we were there before that), then we saw another six on our own. I have opinions about all of them. Nadim is reluctant to share.

| Summer Short Series at GF, Maryland, starting at Old Angler's Inn parking. A very warm & humid evening, and the park was just jammed with kayakers & others enjoying the area. Luckily we found a parking spot in the lot where the start was.
The map had the trails taken off, which didn't matter a lot to me as I am quite familiar with where the trails go, but it did encourage me (initially, anyway) to stay off them. The control features were the deer study flags, which are not usually easy to see. They're four red ground flags, and they've been in the woods for over a year so a few are starting to fade. Makes it just a bit more challenging. By the time I was heading to the third control, the heat, humidity,hills, & lack of fitness were getting to me, and I wondered if I'd have to quit to avoid heat issues. But I decided if I slowed down, walked at times, I could monitor the situation and, probably, get through it. I felt better for a while, then really dragged up a hill near the end. I was very drained when I finished, with sore feet (blisters) and the ankle cranky, but otherwise okay. Had some trouble with #5 (same one I had trouble with last year) & #6. The others went okay. The woods were mostly quite nice, as usual. What a great area for summer training. Distance is as measured by FR.

| Cross training (recumbent exercise bike) 37:00 [3] | ||
| Finished up Mother Jones. MSNBC was on the t.v. -- only one other woman was in the gym at first and she wasn't one of the regulars (who like Price is Right). One of the regulars likes to make conversations about every news story, and I'm finding I disagree with her more often than not. I don't really want to get into a discussion about stuff with her, but I also don't want to blindly agree and let her think I am the same kind of person she is. So I'll have to think about that. Usually I just smile & don't comment. That works mostly. | ||

| Weights (Nautilus) 16:00 [2] | ||
| Did my legs and some of the arm machines - one was broken & then I ran out of time so I had to skip the last couple. Spent one minute with the barbells for my wrists. | ||
| Trail 38:03 [3]3.89 mi (9:47 / mi) | ||
| I had some time to kill while the home inspection was going on (started at 3:30, usually takes around 2+ hours; I get off work at 2:30). I worked an extra hour (comp time :-), which was good because I'm working on roads now and I really enjoy this stage. Then I headed to Carderock for an easy trail run. I had to sit in my car for about ten minutes until my body felt ready to run (blood sugar didn't feel right). Still felt a bit not so pigg but within ten minutes or so I started feeling pretty good (except for my ankle, which definitely isn't recovered yet. But it's about 90%, I think.) I ran upstream on the towpath to the eastern trailhead for the Billygoat Trail Section B. This is much rockier than Section C, requiring foot-watching and concentration. There are some rocky ridges that require clambering/climbing over the rocks. Had to be slow & cautious in those areas. Then there are some bits that are wide, flat, & rock free. Overall, very nice. Warm & humid but not bad. | ||

| I just didn't feel like doing anything, okay?
Maybe later I'll read someone's log & get motivated. Maybe not.

| Quilt meeting today. I might go to a quilt retreat in November (Vet's Day weekend -- just before, actually) in a hotel in Fredricksburg. Kissy, if you're around that weekend, we could go for some runs together!
I haven't done any real quilting since the last retreat I went on. Although I haven't stored any of my quilting stuff, I don't want to bother to get stuff out because I'd have to put it all away after each session. And I don't have a lot of free time; I'd feel like I was spending all my time getting stuff out and putting it away. By next week (assuming Friday's home inspection goes well) I will be able to start packing for the move (to ... somewhere ...). After work I did a lot of chores: grocery shopping, loading & starting dishwasher, a load of laundry. Now it's time to go pick up Max & then think about making dinner. :-)

| Track (Treadmill) 29:49 [3]3.0 mi (9:57 / mi) | ||
| Wanted to do a run today, but with acupuncture after work (lasting over two hours, including drive to & from), the only time I could was at lunch. Hot outside & I didn't want to have to drive to the trails & I didn't really want to get all sweaty, so I resorted to the treadmill. I always feel like the treadmill is harder than running on the ground, for whatever reason -- that's opposite of what the experts say. Go figure.
I didn't have a scrunchie in my gym bag so I had to let my hair go flying. I hate that. I don't pull my hair back for cross-training, and when I do run away from home and have my gym bag, I usually keep my hair up and the scrunchie gets taken out much later and rarely gets put back in the bag. So, eventually I end up with none. I'll try to rectify that situation. Wore a skirt. That was kind of fun.
| Weights (Nautilus) 10:00 [2] | ||
| Used the machines for my legs & core. Didn't get to the abductor/adductor because it was in use. | ||
Monday Jul 7 | ||
| Cross training (recumbent exercise bike) 47:00 [3] | ||
| I brought two magazines, thinking I'd finish Mother Jones. But there was still plenty left (all about prisons ... pretty sad).
Tried to push a bit harder than usual.
