| (rest day) | ||
| Spent most of the day packing boxes. We're getting there.
Packed up all the dishes and most of the food, though I used up some of the last food to make a casserole. I figured we'd eat that tonight, along with a few other things we still have to eat up (e.g., frozen corn, cucumbers), but Nadim suggested we eat out tonight & we can eat the casserole tomorrow. We invited Bob & Ben to go with us to California Pizza Kitchen. Glad we did, as it turns out CPK is closing as of tomorrow for 2 months of renovation! Now for the Closing Ceremonies & a crazy week about to start.

| Putting out a water stop & the last two controls for my Summer Short Series event at Blockhouse Point. Jogged most of this easy. Had just enough time to get this done.
The woods between 15 & 16 were really nice. Didn't run into as many spiderwebs as I did on Thursday. Warm, not too bad. 8 people took part in the training, which was some contouring stuff, trying to know where one was on a hillside, and going up, down, or staying level as needed. Lots of short legs. Woods pretty nice; bottomlands less so but no one thought they were awful. Afterwards, instead of going to a restaurant, we agreed that we wanted to see the men's Olympic marathon so we treked over to Dave & Heidi's, and ordered pizza. Corine, who had an hour on metros ahead of her, left before the race was over, but the rest of us stayed until the end. Max, who hadn't really had a nap, was a bit out of control, just so over tired & stimulated. Heidi was nice enough to take him to the nearby playground for a while, which was good for all of us.

| Course setting at Blockhouse. I went straight to the park after work and got ready to go. I wanted to put out all 16 controls for my Summer Short Series event coming up this Saturday. I ended up skipping the last two, which are not far from the parking lot, as I felt like it was getting late & I needed to get going so Max wouldn't have to wait too long for me.
The woods in general are very nice. The bottomlands at the main creek crossing, though, are a bit unpleasant, with stinging nettles & other weedy growth. There is an earth bank along much of the creek, too. At least the water was low -- the smaller creeks are all dry. Only one control site seemed iffy (Nadim tends to overmap some small features), plus the planned start, which I ended up moving. I made an error early, stopping too soon. I actually hung the control, thinking the spur was pretty vague, and it wasn't until I was on my way to the next control & I hit the trail junction unexpectedly, that I realized I was off. The real site wasn't a whole lot less vague, actually. Now, the bummer of the run: When I put my Forerunner on it told me I had 77% battery power. Good, that is plenty. Got everything set up, and started out. I'd glance at the watch occasionally, and it was giving me my heart rate & time, as usual. Then about an hour in I looked at it, and the face was blank. Just blank. That has only happened when the battery was dead -- but how could that be? I continued to look at it the rest of the run, stupidly hoping it would miraculously come back to life. Of course that didn't happen. So, WTF?? I guess I'll charge it again and see what happens. Hope it's not a lemon. Warm today. Really felt tired after what was essentially an easy run. Part of that is no doubt the reduced sleep I've been getting due to later nights watching the Olympics.

| We had a celebrity come to the agency today: Kenny Rogers. Now, it's not all that unusal to get actors who are going to be in some agency-type movie come for a visit, but this didn't seem to be related to anything. The note that went out to the employees just said he wanted to come by to talk to management, and he also wanted to meet some regular employees. So it was arranged that he'd be available for photos -- no autographs -- for about a half hour or so starting around 11:45. Now, I'm not a big fan (I'm pretty sure I don't have any KR music on my iTunes ... what song would I pick if I were to have one? I'll have to ponder that), but I like celebrites as much as the next guy. Since he was going to be in the hallway right outside Starbucks, I figured I could get a look at him when I went up for my regular iced tea run. The hallway was crowded, and there was a loooong line of people, snaking down the hall and around the corner, almost to the entrance, hoping to get their picture taken with Kenny, and, by the way, say happy 70th birthday to him (as we were prompted by the message).
So I went to Starbucks, and there he was. He looked pretty good, skinnier than I expected. Not entirely sure I'd recognize him if I didn't know it was him. I wouldn't say it made my day, but it was kind of fun.

| Cross training (recumbent exercise bike) 37:00 [2] | ||
| Got to see the men's volleyball against Serbia, with the key 5th set. It was good.
Finished Runner's World.
| Weights (Nautilus) 10:00 [3] | ||
| Legs & arms. Had to skip the last few arm machines as I spent some time gawking at the t.v. with the men's volleyball. Not that I'm a huge vball fan, but it was cool anyway.
I still feel like I'm missing out on something re. the Olympics. Back in the old days when the only coverage was prime time, almost all the sports got at least a few minutes on t.v. Now with the internet & all the various channels showing Olympics virtually around the clock, prime time is dedicated to the big sports. Okay, I do enjoy those, but I'd like to see at least a little of the others. Still haven't seen any shooting, fencing, badminton, who-knows-what-else. Still sad for Lolo Jones. Guess them's the breaks in hurdles. Sad for Susanna Kallur, too (and any other athlete who couldn't complete his/her race).

| Trail 47:20 [3] | ||
| I remembered to bring & wear my Forerunner today, but, again, it won't download. Annoying. And I ran the same route as last week so I could get the actual distance. arrrrrrrgh.
Took exercise leave again so I could run before it got too hot, as well as to leave the after-work time for packing (and Olympics watching, and, so far, kicking back on the computer & eating chocolate ...). Ankle hurt walking to the car, and actually bothered me for part of the run. That, too, is annoying. But it was a very nice run, with gorgeous weather. Around 80, not a cloud in the sky, low humidity. Not bad for August! Aside from my ankle, I felt pretty good.

| Cross training (recumbent exercise bike) 47:00 [2] | ||
| Once again, the Olympics were on t.v. Caught some men's volleyball and a recap of some track & field. Much better than the usual t.v. choices!
While commercials were on or it was otherwise boring, I read Runner's World.
| Weights (Dumbbells) 5:00 [2] | ||
| Just some easy hand/shoulder/wrist work. | ||
