| running (roads) 41:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Asics 2100 | ||

Tuesday Nov 29 | ||
| running (treadmill) 52:00 [2] | ||
| slept:8.0 shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Did quite a lot of uphill. Could have done more, but I have to go to work! | ||
Monday Nov 28 | ||
| Note | ||
| slept:7.0 (rest day) | ||
| Unplanned. Couldn't stand the idea of getting up early, then had Bridget all day. More time the next 3 days ... | ||
Sunday Nov 27 | ||
| running (roads and trails) 30:00 [2] | ||
| slept:8.0 shoes: Asics 2100 | ||
| 3:30pm. Felt very good today, acutally! | ||
| running tempo (trails) 12:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Asics 2100 | ||
| Picked up the pace a bit, felt good. | ||
Saturday Nov 26 | ||
| Hiking 15:00 [1] | ||
| Okay, so it was really 2 hours of sledding. But I walked up that big hill (The golf course at Eagle Mtn House in Jackson) a lot of times. And some of them I was towing a 30 plus pound weight. Once it was 2 x 30 pounds (but then I told them that enough was enough).
Fantastic to sled in November. Shame there isn't any snow in Boston.

Friday Nov 25 | ||
| running (roads) 32:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: trail pegasus | ||
| Snowy roads, too much traffic. | ||
| running intervals (roads) 10:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: trail pegasus | ||
| Found a stretch of Hurricane Mtn Road that was reasonably clear and not too much traffic (though still a fair amount for a dead-end!). 4 x 150 paces (roughly 400m) with plenty of rest. | ||
Thursday Nov 24 | ||
| running (trails and roads) 48:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: trail pegasus | ||
| In the snow with Dad and Andy. Dad showed us some 'new' trails. Did go quite a long way up the hill, which felt good. Down was scary on the road, everyone slipped a few times, and someone (no names, of course) ended up on his backside! I yanked my back at one point trying not to do the same.
Saw some turkey tracks in the snow, very appropriate for the day!
Monday Nov 21 | ||
| running (roads) 25:00 [1] | ||
| slept:6.0 shoes: Asics 2100 | ||
| Must have missed David and Debby by less than a minute ... but it meant that I did a more conservative run, which is closer to the post marathon schedule I was planning ...
IT band not bad today, but shin splints making themselves known. And I still feel like I am fighting something off ...
Sunday Nov 20 | ||
| running (roads) 52:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Asics 2100 | ||
| 7am with David on the Trail. Felt good to start, then tired. IT bands on both legs tightened up from 4 miles onward.
Enjoyed walking the white course later, and again this year glad that my common sense prevailed and I didn't do the traverse. Not just recovering from the marathon, but from the school play too. Need more rest!
Thursday Nov 17 | ||
| running (treadmill) 18:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Just to shake the legs out. Took it very easy. IT band on right leg tightened up after about 1 mile. Stretched after. | ||
Sunday Nov 13 | ||
| Note | ||
| (rest day) | ||
| Very sore! Stairs are agony. | ||
Saturday Nov 12 | ||
| Event: Stone Cat Trail Marathon (and 50 miler) | ||
| running race (trails) 3:42:35 [3] 26.2 mi (8:30 / mi) vdot: 41.5 | ||
| slept:5.5 shoes: Trail Pegasus 2 | ||
| Couldn't sleep, but it didn't matter!
A beautiful morning, and fantastic trail conditions. I found my pace - the first and second loops were only 2 minutes different (second was slower), though the first felt a lot better! Ran with some very nice folks, and had some good chats earlier on. Then I found myself on my own for most of the last hour. My right IT band was the first thing to get tight. Thankfully no problems with my big toe at all! Like last time, I just got more and more weary. Started to stumble more often, and my stride got very short. I didn't have anyone with me to push (or pull) me along, but I knew that I needed to keep the pace steady. Most of the time 'lost' on the second lap was in the last 2 miles (55 seconds). Overall - glad that all the training paid off! I was only 2 minutes shy of my 'ideal goal', and well inside my 'really good goal' ... It is an incredible feeling when it all comes together like that. But anti-climactic very shortly afterward. Now what? Now my goal is to get my legs to stop hurting!!!

Friday Nov 11 | ||
| running (treadmill) 16:00 [1] | ||
| slept:7.0 shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Woke at 4:20, before my alarm! That is a good sign.
Definitely felt like I wanted to go further this morning ... but took a little while to warm up. Still, feeling good overall. Big toe is still tingling a little, which often seems to come before pain ... but hopefully the uneven ground will vary my footfall more than the road, and it won't hurt. Weather forecast is for 30-45 degrees and sunny. What more could I ask for?
| C • Good Luck! 2 | ||
Thursday Nov 10 | ||
| Note | ||
| slept:7.5 (rest day) | ||
| Tapering is getting dull! Woke up 3 times in the night, but still feel it was reasonable. Up at 4:45am ... it doesn't feel too bad. I would have been fine running at 6am ...
2 days to go! | ||
Tuesday Nov 8 | ||
| running (treadmill) 24:00 [2] | ||
| slept:7.0 shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Couldn't fall asleep last night, so got up later than intended. Ran at 7am, felt fine. Did a few strides as 7:50 pace wasn't stretching the legs out enough. Now on to two rest days! | ||
Monday Nov 7 | ||
| running warm up/down (treadmill) 21:00 [1] | ||
| slept:5.8 shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Ugh. NOT enough sleep. But that was the last of the bad nights, really!
9:30am on the treadmill. Felt fine, and stretched well after.
| running intervals (treadmill) 12:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| 4 x 400, like the schedule says. At just over 90 seconds each. It was supposed to feel easy, and it did. | ||
Sunday Nov 6 | ||
| running (road and trail) 24:00 [2] | ||
| slept:6.8 shoes: trail pegasus | ||
| 3 miles. Actually may have been slightly further, as I went the pace that felt good today, which seemed a little faster than yesterday.
It seemed very short! I am finding that my legs are MORE sore than normal during the taper. I like to think of it as my muscles growing ... but it probably is just a sign that I should stretch more. 6 days to go now ...
Saturday Nov 5 | ||
| running long (trails and roads) 1:07:00 [2] | ||
| slept:8.0 shoes: Trail Pegasus 2 | ||
| 8:30am. Planned to do it sooner, but it just didn't happen. I'll get earlier as the week passes.
Tried hard to sense the right pace today. Aimed for 8:15 and kept running 7:57 or so. But I think it gave me a better idea of what I need to be doing. Tried again with the new trail shoes, and still had some trouble with my right arch and bunion. I am wondering if the socks (Smartwool Adrenaline) have something to do with it. They are pretty tight around the arch. So I'm going to go with the old Smartwool ones, and hopefully that will be the only change I need. Think I have the rest of the clothing sorted ... now I just need to shop for some GU and make sure I get enough sleep for the next week!
Friday Nov 4 | ||
| running (roads) 41:00 [1] | ||
| slept:6.0 shoes: Asics 2100 | ||
| Not enough sleep. The show is starting to stress me out, and it is hard to turn my brain off.
Good run this am, very nice morning, nice foliage. We maintained our slightly faster pace too. All runs will be morning for the next week, to get ready for that 6am start!!!!
Wednesday Nov 2 | ||
| running (roads) 41:00 [1] | ||
| shoes: Asics 2100 | ||
| With David and Debby. We must have all got up on the right side of the bed ... it was about a minute faster than usual.
Morning runs are the only good thing about the end of daylight savings time.
Tuesday Nov 1 | ||
| running tempo (treadmill) 16:00 [3] | ||
| slept:7.0 shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| 9:30am. Felt fine, got up to pace easily. Gradual increase from 8:10 to 6:07 pace (pushed the speed up button every 30 seconds). Amazing how slow 7:30 pace feels after 6:07. | ||
| running warm up/down (treadmill) 14:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| About 9 warm up and 5 warm down. | ||
