Tuesday Jan 31 | ||
| running (treadmill) 30:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Took it easy. The cold is almost gone ... and I don't want it to come back again! | ||
Monday Jan 30 | ||
| Note | ||
| (sick) | ||
| Head still aches (sinus kind) and ears feel nasty still. I think I need to really take it easy for a couple of days to see if I can get rid of it. Running feels great at the time, but the following day I seem to feel more sick.
Goal tonight is 8 hours of sleep!
Sunday Jan 29 | ||
| running (trails) 1:00:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Asics 2100 | ||
| Many muddy trails with Andy. It was great to get out together, and explore some new sections of the ski trails (not skiable right now, that's for sure). Didn't have any zip, though I felt like I could go for ages at our casual pace. Hills felt exhausting. | ||
Saturday Jan 28 | ||
| Alpine Skiing 35:00 [1] | ||
| We'll call it 35 anyway. It felt something like that ... a 'full day' of skiing, which involved some standing around in line, some heart racing sprints skating from one lift across the flats to a different one, some great downhill skiing (glorious sunshine and in the 40s), and some back breaking skiing with Bridget. She did go up the chairlift for the first time, and loved it. Andy and I got in 5 or so good top to bottom hard runs at the end of the day - definitely a good workout for the quads.
Many thanks to 'Gran and Gaffer' for all their help with the kids, and letting us get some grown up skiing time! Still suffering from sinus stuff. Ears ache.
Thursday Jan 26 | ||
| running tempo (treadmill) 14:00 [4] | ||
| slept:7.0 shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Felt a little tired, so didn't push the pace too much (but got to just below 6:30 for at least a bit). | ||
| running warm up/down (treadmill) 21:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| 14 warm up (gradually picking up the pace), 7 warm down (gradually slowing). Nothing good to watch on TV, just the President talking, which was far worse than not having anything. | ||
Tuesday Jan 24 | ||
| running (treadmill) 46:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Quite a few hills today. Felt fine once I got going. | ||
Monday Jan 23 | ||
| Core Strength 10:00 [1] | ||
| Snow shovelling, so we'll call it arms and lower back. Wanted to log it so that if my back starts hurting in the next couple of days, I will remember why!!
Still have a cold. Yuck.
| C • snow 3 | ||
Sunday Jan 22 | ||
| orienteering 1:35:00 [2] *** | ||
| Line O and control picking. Very slow and thick. Not focused at all, but it was good to get me thinking about orienteering a bit ... | ||
Friday Jan 20 | ||
| Note | ||
| (sick) | ||
| Second day in a row sick. Sore throat (very) and headache (not as bad as the throat) ... wonder if this all is connected to how run down I was feeling a few days back. Now I just feel sick.
Good news is a few things at work have sorted themselves out, and now it is seeming much less stressful.
Wednesday Jan 18 | ||
| running intervals (treadmill) 16:00 [4] | ||
| slept:7.5 shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| 1 x 1200m, 2 x 800m, 4 x 200m at half marathon/10km/5km pace. Felt fine. Recovery a little tricky as it takes a while for the treadmill to slow down to recovery pace ... | ||
| running warm up/down (treadmill) 31:00 [3] | ||
Tuesday Jan 17 | ||
| running (trails and roads) 42:00 [3] | ||
| slept:6.5 shoes: Asics 2100 | ||
| Still not a good night of sleep, but the plan to get out in the am worked. Beautiful sunny day! 10am run, laps around the Res with 5 x 90 paces hard thrown in. Felt a bit foreign ... time to start doing speed work more regularly.
AM tomorrow too. Get it done!
| Core Strength 7:00 [1] | ||
Monday Jan 16 | ||
| Note | ||
| (rest day) | ||
| Still feeling run down and unmotivated. Not sure why, a week ago I was all excited about training well again. Work seems overwhelming. Andy's work is totally overwhelming ... and therefore the housework is also overwhelming... and I feel like I don't have enough time for general coping with life, let alone a run. Then in the evening when I do have a little time, I am too wiped out.
Tomorrow I am going to run in the morning, and try to start getting back into that habit. It seems to work better for me. There is a 16 mile trail race on April 2nd that I would love to do ... and do well. So I can't procrastinate any more!
| C • Down 5 | ||
Saturday Jan 14 | ||
| running (treadmill) 45:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Felt awful for first 20 minutes, then finally warmed up and felt fine. Still feeling run-down in general though. Stress probably. | ||
Thursday Jan 12 | ||
| running warm up/down (treadmill) 23:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| 9:30am, felt great. | ||
| running tempo (treadmill) 28:00 [4] | ||
| max:168 | ||
| 2 x 2 miles at 6:58 pace first one, 6:50 pace second one (average). It felt very smooth, could've gone faster, but it wasn't supposed to be all out, so I held back. Raised the incline when it was feeling too easy! | ||
Wednesday Jan 11 | ||
| running (roads) 43:00 [2] | ||
| slept:7.5 | ||
| 5:30am. Nice to have it done for the day. Easy run with the gang. | ||
Monday Jan 9 | ||
| Note | ||
| (rest day) | ||
| Feeling wiped out today. Did walk to and from Ethan's school twice, so at least I stretched my legs and got fresh air. Planning a really good night of sleep tonight ... | ||
Sunday Jan 8 | ||
| running long (trails) 1:35:00 [2] | ||
| slept:7.0 shoes: Trail Pegasus 2 | ||
| Blue Hills with Pia. We are a good pace for eachother, and the trails didn't have much snow, so conditions were really nice. Light snow falling, not cold ... and we spent some time talking about future training in the Boston area ...
Nice to get a longer run in, seems like the first time in ages!
| Core Strength 7:00 [1] | ||
| PM. Abs and arms. | ||
Saturday Jan 7 | ||
| Ice Skating 15:00 [1] | ||
| Actually it was about 60 minutes, but much of it was easy. I probably worked my lower back (helping Bridget) and my ankles the most. Definitely good at building ankle strength! This feels comparable to core strength, but it seems more fun to give it its own category .... | ||
| running (treadmill) 29:00 [3] | ||
| slept:6.0 shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| 8:30pm again. Wow, it is easy to get up to speed at this time of night. Mostly at 7:30 pace, then a faster mile near the end. Some small hills (4-6%). Watching the Patriots ... | ||
| Note | ||
| I am going to change the way I do the 1-5 ratings ... saving 1 for non-running stuff, and then starting with 2 for easy runs. 3 for harder steady runs, 4 for tempo/threshold stuff. And 5 for intervals and hard races. In the past I have almost never used 5, and it seems silly to log the core strength, downhill skiing etc on the same level as a run, however easy. | ||
| C • sounds good 1 | ||
Thursday Jan 5 | ||
| Core Strength 5:00 [1] | ||
| Abs arms and back again, just not so much of it tonight. Watching 'The Office' which is not as funny as Scrubs. | ||
| running warm up/down (treadmill) 30:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Got up to speed easily tonight (8:30pm). Feeling much better, so I really must have been a bit sick on Tuesday. Pretty much all sub 8 pace after the first couple of minutes. | ||
| running tempo (treadmill) 15:00 [4] | ||
| ahr:150 max:168 shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| Well, not exactly Tempo, more Fartlek. Some hills, and a faster mile near the end (to about 6:40 pace). Felt strong, and would have done more but it was pretty late, and I don't want to be awake until midnight! Gotta get back to the am stuff ...
Average HR of 150 was for the whole workout, not just the faster bits. Might have hit 170, but I was trying not to watch the numbers all the time!
| Note | ||
| Found a race to run. 16 mile trail run on April 1st. Just the right amount of time to get ready! Two laps of an 8 mile course. Now I just have to talk a few others into doing it with me! | ||
Wednesday Jan 4 | ||
| Core Strength 10:00 [1] | ||
| Abs and arms and back. Feeling overwhelmed by work. Couldn't bring myself to do the treadmill. | ||
Tuesday Jan 3 | ||
| running (treadmill) 33:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Pegasus 2 | ||
| 8pm. Felt awful. Thought I might warm up, but never did. Tried going slower, still felt bad. Tried going faster, didn't feel worse, but didn't feel better either. Time for a good night of sleep! | ||
| Core Strength 7:00 [1] | ||
| Very hard to do crunches while watching Scrubs ... it uses the same muscles! | ||
Monday Jan 2 | ||
| running long (roads and trails) 1:01:00 [3] | ||
| slept:8.5 shoes: trail pegasus | ||
| Stuffy nose, felt the best it has all day when I was running! Felt great today. Nothing hurting, legs strong ... sunshine, little traffic! Why can't it be like this more often! | ||
Sunday Jan 1 | ||
| Alpine Skiing 20:00 [1] | ||
| Actually skiied a lot longer, but it felt like about 20 minutes of work for my legs. Mostly on the easy slopes with Ethan, and the carpet lift with Bridget, who has just learned to ski! Much fun. | ||
