Swimming 30:00 [1]
(injured)
Wow, hadn't done this for a while! No idea how far, as I don't know the length of The Res - but it was fun. Mostly front crawl. One fast length. Probably should get in the habit of doing fast ones more often.

Note
(injured)
Well, I heard more or less what I expected from the doctor.

It is my IT band, and it is a result of my high insteps and arches. I need custom made orthotics. I need PT. I need to ice. And I need to not run. And I need to take Naproxen, which irritates my stomach, so there is a long list of things I can't eat or drink while I am taking it.

So, I have the appointment with the podiatrist, August 8th. He is head of podiatry at Mt Auburn, and worth waiting for, I'm told.

I have not yet filled the prescription, wondering if ice, PT and rest might make it unnecessary.

I have not made a PT appointment yet, as I have both kids all day every day, and sitting in a doctor's office is not their idea of a good time. Co-pay plus babysitting fee is not in the budget.

And I am, of course, in a completely foul mood.

Core Strength 25:00 [1]
(injured)
Abs, arms and legs.

Sunday Jul 15

running long (trails) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8
With Wendy and Nadim. Took a while to warm up and then felt pretty good. Great to have such good company!

Today the injury report is: right quad tight during the first third, then loosened up again (similar to last year). Right knee hurt later in the run, and afterward (tendonitis?).

Glad to have it done as it is now yucky hot and yucky humid. Yuck. Bring on fall!

Saturday Jul 14

running warm up/down (roads) 29:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Asics 2100 - 2
7:45am. A very sensible time to run. Too much on roads, but had to get to a useful hill.
running hills (roads) 11:00 [5]
(injured) shoes: Asics 2100 - 2
3 x Walnut Street. Felt strong on the first 2, then on the third my right leg did the usual seize. Hopefully the doctor(s) will sort it out soon...

Friday Jul 13

Core Strength 25:00 [1]
9pm. Not my prime time to exercise. But did arms, abs and some legs. Getting into a good routine. 3 sets of 12, except for abs - 3 sets of 16 or so.

Wednesday Jul 11

running warm up/down (treadmill) 15:00 [2]
shoes: Pegasus 3 wide
Evening, but not too late. Short run as it was done while Andy cooked supper (kids ate early). Watched a PBS documentary about synchronized swimming, and had to consciously remind myself not to hold my breath! Then the next day I had to do a lot of sculling when the kids and I swam ... should log it as 'abs and arms'!
running (treadmill) 10:00 [4]
shoes: Pegasus 3 wide
Mini tempo run. Felt quite good, but it was very short.

Tuesday Jul 10

Note
(injured)
As the leg was unhappy on a short easy run yesterday, I spent today looking into Drs to see about my injury. As I am getting a bit of very welcome advice (thanks Jeff!) I am giong to hold off a day or so in order to make an appt with someone appropriate, as opposed to 'just someone I found out about online' -
Hopefully on the road to recovery soon.

Monday Jul 9

running (treadmill) 26:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Pegasus 3 wide
Easy recovery run, but my right quad seized. Time to see any doctor with anything at all helpful to say.
Core Strength 20:00 [1]
Abs, arms and calves. We'll see if we can keep this one going ...

Sunday Jul 8

running warm up/down (trails) 11:00 [1]
shoes: Inov8
running race (trails) 1:21:00 [4]
shoes: Inov8
Skyline Race - thanks Jeff and Judy! It was fun. Knee hurts now (a few hours later), but not much during.

I am definitley not in great shape for uphill running. Felt really wimpy. Down and flat were fine, but it was hot. Next time I will carry my own water.

Still, got a nice Inov8 hat, and had a good time. Well done to Hilly for her win! Never saw her after the first climb.

Saturday Jul 7

running (treadmill) 25:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Pegasus 3 wide
Easy treadmill run with 2 min and 1 min at tempo pace. Right leg tight. Bah. Otherwise okay.

Core Strength (abs) 3:00 [1]

Thursday Jul 5

running warm up/down (treadmill) 23:00 [2]
shoes: Pegasus 3 wide
Early afternoon, watching Wimbledon.
running intervals (treadmill) 20:00 [5]
(injured) shoes: Pegasus 3 wide
3 x .5 mile, then 1 x .36 or so ... made the mistake of thinking that the 5km program would allow me enough distance ... but then I used too much to warm up. Decided to just make the last one a +-600 instead of pushing lots of buttons.

I didn't feel fast, but didn't feel heavy or slow either. Just unused to speed. First at 3:04, then 3:03, 3:02 and the last was down to 5:40 mile pace (for however long), which actually felt fine. It takes me ages to warm up! I did stop and stretch after the warm up and before the intervals. Should have done some fast strides too. Next time.

Right quad/IT band tight from about half way through. It never goes away. About 2 hours later my hip began to hurt, and the next day my knee hurt(s). Tried to make an appointment to see the guy Wendy told me about ... but he isn't seeing any new patients until January. So now I need to find someone else to try. I don't want to not be able to do the marathon due to this ongoing injury/biomechanical problem ...

Wednesday Jul 4

running (trails and roads) 53:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2100 - 2
With Ian, after Wendy and Andy raced. Faster by a bit than my ususal pace, but good for me. Could've gone further if I had needed to ... but I didn't. Short swim at Walden after, before the clouds came.

Legs pretty good, but right leg tightening did happen at about 35 minutes.

Monday Jul 2

running (trails and roads) 53:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8
Can't exactly remember the time ... with Debby at Nickerson. Lovely run, lovely morning. I'm not strong on hills at the moment, but felt pretty good. Not surprising, with all the rest days I've been having.
