Sunday Aug 31

running long (trails) 2:32:00 [3]
shoes: Pegasus 3 wide
Felt very heavy up the Red Tail - it took 52 minutes up - 5 minutes longer than last time (when I felt good). Got better later, and my leg loosened up. Andy kept me moving faster at the end than I would have on my own, which was great.

Saturday Aug 30

running (trails) 1:33:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8
With Dad. Fun exploring the trails.

Friday Aug 29

running (trails and roads) 31:00 [2]
shoes: Pegasus 3 wide
Got it a bit more steady today. Laps were 8:43 and 8:44 - which I think is about the right pace.

Thursday Aug 28

running (trails and roads) 30:00 [3]
shoes: Pegasus 3 wide
Laps of Menotomy. Too fast - 8:30s.

Wednesday Aug 27

Core Strength (legs and abs) 15:00 [1]

Tuesday Aug 26

running warm up/down (treadmill) 18:00 [2]
shoes: Asics 2130
running tempo (treadmill) 22:00 [4]
shoes: Asics 2130
Leg seized horribly. Haven't been stretching enough - which may be part of the problem.

Monday Aug 25

running (trails and roads) 25:00 [3]
shoes: Pegasus4
With Andy. Faster than I would do alone!

Friday Aug 22

running hills (dirt road) 20:00 [5]
(injured) shoes: Asics 2130
Leg wasn't great. Would have done one more, but a friend was watching the kids ...
running warm up/down (trails) 22:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2130

Wednesday Aug 20

running long (treadmill) 2:15:17 [3] 16.0 mi (8:26 / mi)
shoes: Pegasus4
ITB tight from about 4-8 miles, then okay. We'll see how it does later.

Kept at around 8:25-8:18 pace for the first 12 miles, then up to 7:45 pace (gradually) for the last 4. Felt good! Also put in some hills (3-4% x 2 minutes) every now and then.

Definitely 'easier' than running on trails, so I tried to keep the pace significantly faster.

Not bad for being up half the night with a sick kid!

Tuesday Aug 19

running (treadmill) 1:09:00 [3]
shoes: Pegasus4
Bunion is hurting, but eased after 5 minutes or so. We'll see if it hurts more after or not.

Getting my 'weekend' runs done now, so that I don't have to do them in Vermont this weekend (and enabling Andy to do his there). I'll do my hills there ... there will be plenty from which to choose!

Sunday Aug 17

running (trails) 1:28:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8
With Wendy in the Fells at 8am. Felt good! Leg tight from 20-30 minutes, then fine for the rest.

Inspired by the women's marathon last night!!

Saturday Aug 16

running (trails and roads) 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2130
Tried to run steadily at marathon pace. Failed (need more practice). Splits for the 1850m loop were: 9:16, 9:25, 9:00, 9:06, 9:04. Guess I improved at the steadiness. I am questioning the measurement, as 8min pace should be 9:15, but it felt way too slow (and I am not that fit). Going to look back at my old times ...

Friday Aug 15

running intervals (treadmill) 25:00 [5]
ahr:168 max:172 shoes: Pegasus4
5 x .5 mile on the treadmill with .3 recovery. 3:07, 3:07, 3:07, 3:06, 3:05. Roughly. Felt fine, though definitely harder at the end. Could have done more or gone faster.
My leg didn't get tight, due I guess to so much good stretching before and over the past few days.
running warm up/down (treadmill) 39:00 [2]
shoes: Pegasus4
Swimming (arms) 2:00 [1]
Okay, so it was only a little, but it was all overhead sculling - so I wanted to log it to explain why my arms and shoulders will be so sore for the next few days! Fun though!

Thursday Aug 14

Core Strength (legs) 18:00 [1]
3 x 20 of each.
Swimming 25:00 [1]

Tuesday Aug 12

running (treadmill) 26:00 [2]
shoes: Pegasus4
9:30pm. Too late, but did it anyway. Then stayed up even later watching Olympics...

Sunday Aug 10

running long (trails (and roads)) 2:10:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2130
10am. Much less humid than last week (phew!). My right leg was tight for the first 50 minutes or so, then it relaxed. I give up on predicting what it will feel like. It did definitely relax on downhill stretches.

Took GU at 45 and 90 minutes, and finished feeling pretty fine. The 500 ml of water I took was nearly but not quite enough. 750 next time.

Stretched dutifully for about 20 minutes afterward.

Overall, I'm feeling fairly positive about the Stone Cat now - this weekend was a bit of a test, and it seemed okay. My leg doesn't seem to be getting any worse with increased training ...

Saturday Aug 9

running (treadmill) 54:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Pegasus4
Leg tight from 30 minutes. Slowed a bit and took the incline from 1% down to .5 and then 0. It eased enough to keep going, and eventually I got the pace back down to 7:40. Most was at 8:00 pace though.

Friday Aug 8

Swimming 20:00 [1]
My new goggles are great. Not only do they not leak, they don't fog ... so I could see every last one of the 100s of Canada Goose poops laying on the bottom.
Core Strength (legs and abs) 20:00 [1]
Full set of leg lifts with the ankle weight.

Thursday Aug 7

running warm up/down (treadmill) 18:00 [4]
ahr:168 max:172 (injured) shoes: Pegasus4
Leg was doing fine until I had to stop abruptly at full speed to deal with a kid-question. As soon as I started again it seized somewhat (though not as bad as Monday). Definitely the days off helped it to loosen up. Must be a moral there.

Top speed 6:27. Had a few 1.5 minute hills.
running warm up/down (treadmill) 17:00 [3]
shoes: Pegasus4

Tuesday Aug 5

Swimming 20:00 [1]

Monday Aug 4

running (roads) 40:00 [2]
(injured)
Paying for yesterday. Leg was awful from only about 10 minutes in. Seized so much that I needed to stop and stretch three times. Still felt awful.

Sunday Aug 3

running long (trails and roads) 1:53:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8
Felt pretty good. Leg was only ever a bit niggly and never seized. Felt amazingly good at about 55 minutes, then realized that it had been about 10 since I had a packet of GU. The stuff really works!
Hot, but thankfully not humid.

Saturday Aug 2

Note
(rest day)
Travel day home from Maine. Now it will take a week to do the laundry.

Friday Aug 1

running (trails and roads) 42:00 [2]
shoes: Asics 2130
Early am and felt like it.
