orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

Pawtuckaway Green Course. Felt quite good considering how long it has been (nearly a year). I felt okay running, though the hills got me a bit (thankfully not many of them). MCL began to hurt part way through, and has hurt consistently since (8 hours now). Iced it. When something bumped it this evening it really hurt. Ugh.
As to the navigation - reasonable considering how rusty I am. Only one real mistake, and a little bit (15 seconds or so) in the circle a couple times. What made me slow (aside from just being slow) was not having a good magnifying system. I was using a flip down magnifier, but every time I used it, then flipped it away, my eyes took a few moments to refocus. It was unnerving, and made me reluctant to use the magnifier, which meant I wasn't reading the map in short frequent glances, but in infrequent long looks, standing still ... which is not how I like to orienteer.
So now I have purchased a new moscowcompass and will get the attachable magnifier to go with it as soon as they are in stock. I predict that it will be a better solution for me and my eyesight. Hope so anyway!
