orienteering race (sprint) 17:00 [4]
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4

City park = no excuse to slow down. One wobble, about 2 seconds, the rest was (lack of) speed. Kept feeling tight, then reminding myself that I could go faster, which would work for a bit ... but didn't feel fast ... ever.

running warm up/down (grass) 23:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4

13 w/u, 10 w/d. Quads tight. ITB tight. Need to stretch!

Strength (core, arms, legs) 30:00 [1]

Kept doing stuff, but with a lot of rest. A little feeble, but got to 30 minutes of actually working eventually. And I hurt, so I guess it worked.

running (trails) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4

With Ethan around Menotomy. Trying out the new shoes, so did some off trail also. They are a bit long, but I don't notice it at all running, and they have great grip. Keepers, I think ... but RRS gives me 90 days to figure it out, just in case I change my mind.

Felt fairly awful, then at about 25 minutes started feeling great. I just don't warm up quickly these days.

Cardio - other warm up/down (walking - roads) 20:00 [1]
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4

To and from the woods. No pavement running allowed.

Note
(rest day)

Sunday and Monday had no time due to a trip with Ethan to visit college. Stevens Institute of Technology is it. Hoboken has a lot of restaurants, so I think we'll have to visit a few times ... but I'll also want to shell out for a hotel with a gym. City living doesn't work well for runners with dead knees.

8 hours in the car on Sunday, with nasty rain, flooded streets (1 hour was spent in a solid line of traffic, moving less than 200m ... but at least I wasn't one of the cars stalled out in the flood). I think it would have been more fun running Boston.

running race (trails) 1:34:00 [4]
shoes: Triumph

Not sure about the time, and the course was 9.5 not ten. Great new sections that were barely trail, so fun! More hills than the old course, but that made it more interesting.
Lots of yummy snacks (bagels, chocolate covered almonds, and a new one ... coffee-coconut chips, which are actually really nice, though I don't know about nutrition.
The race was great. Started with Bridget, running steadily for the first 6.5, then pushed a bit more for the last few miles, though still not super hard. More of a hard workout than a full race effort. Body felt remarkably good, and I am not going to be afraid of longer trail races any more! Though I guess I should wait until tomorrow to decide whether it bugged my knee or not.
Great to see other orienteers there - Olafsens (with very cute grandchild) & Coach.

Note
(rest day)

Actually had time today ... but wanted to rest for the trail race tomorrow. Not sure when the last time I ran 10 miles was ... possibly years if orienteering doesn't count. Not really going to race, just to run, though hopefully not to plod.
