Orienteering race (Ashton Court ASO) 1:08:15 [3] 8.54 km (8:00 / km) +230m 7:03 / km
shoes: inov8 Roclite295 (1)

Good course, but apart from 6-12 my knowledge of Ashton Court meant that I could do most of it on autopilot.

Clean to 1, and then 2. 3 was long and boring (17 mins!) - slowed to a walk for a lot of it but did try to keep the distance down. Messed up 4 by leaving 3 in the wrong direction. 6-12 all clean, done at varying speed but mostly slow - my memory of this area is always very vague.

14-15 had a few good route options - I chose to go mostly straight and climb up from just behind the mansion. Think taking the track would have tired me more.

Took advantage of the taped route out of 17 - hope that means my 2:50 split on that leg was quite good!

Enjoyed the last half of the course much more than the first. Nice to be doing non-urban O once again.

Orienteering - Urban race (London City Race) 1:24:13 [5] 14.0 km (6:01 / km) +100m 5:48 / km
shoes: Saucony ProGrid Triumph 7

Second City Race I've been too - much better than last year's.

First trip through the Barbican fine, but was unsure of location of 3 from control descriptions, so detoured to make sure it wasn't at the top before going to the bottom.

4-5-6-7-8 felt like a slog, getting slower and slower. Took the interesting route to 10 parallel to Liverpool St station - think going north would have been better. 12-13-14 I remember from last year. Control 19 was the church that has the bells from the ruined one near home - much more exciting than No. 18 at St Pauls with the tourists...

Not caught out by 20 or 22. Took the wrong turn at 25 as too tired to concentrate. Fell into a walk for most of 26. 27 fine, but was surprised to find myself so close to 3 so soon after leaving 26.

28 a bit of a disaster, but I won't claim all the responsibility of it. Got very confused by seeing the tennis courts and thought I'd gone too far, but not seen the staircase, took another staircase and after lots of walking around got led into the control by a woman waving. Looking back it's because the buildings and the open were all coloured olive green, so I was expecting a change of colour when the building ended.

Rest fine but was held up into the finish by the two people ahead of me. Overall, lost about 3.5 mins.

Lots of familiar faces and people to talk to. A woman at St Pauls seemed to know me - guess it must have been Chris King, and a man between 29-30 who I didn't really see much of also knew who I was. Always comes as a bit of surprise to hear somebody calling out my name.

Route I think I took: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5072734
About 14k, climb plucked from thin air. Got to 10k distance run at about 58 mins, which I'm very pleased with.

Running (to the train!) 1:30 [5] 0.25 km (6:00 / km) +30m 3:45 / km
shoes: Saucony Grid Trigon 4 Ride

The tube was all messed up coming back so Tim L and I had to run for the 3.45 train. Made it with just about 5 mins to spare. After all the effort, we didn't leave until gone 10 to 4 due to absence of traincrew...

Running - off road (BOK Training Run) 1:05:40 [3] 8.43 km (7:47 / km) +165m 7:06 / km
shoes: inov8 Roclite295 (1)

Lots of stinging nettles, barbed wire and horses. Wrong turns and it going dark at the end - us having no torches. Good fun, and we dodged the rain until when it came to leaving the pub.

Did a bit of a sprint downhill half way round - made it to 21.5kph without tripping over a stone so quite happy.

Overtook Ifor on the motorway going home - not often I can say I was going faster than him!
