Good to see lots of orienteers out today - at least 2 Tims, Mark Burley, Paul and Caroline, me, Duncan, 2 Manns and some lady in an EUOC top.
Didn't feel too good before the run so expected little. Kept with Tim L for most of the climb and we seemed to have caught Mark up quite a bit by the half way point. Apart from slowing down briefly on the steep bit by where the gravel track flattens on the golf course, I seemed to be doing the climb at 10kph or higher, so quite pleased.
They left me on the downhill though - a consequence of the Stoke Bishop race from May is that I cannot just let myself go like I used to - just couldn't get myself above 16kph on the sweeping tarmac track. Was faster after it flattened out but 500m of sprint effort to finish off left me metaphorically dead at the end.
Fastest 5k pace since July, and the course I did then was much flatter and I'm pretty sure was only 4.8km long. So, today was probably my actual 5km PB - ought to manage 21.30ish on a flat one.
Duncan and Tim seem to have given Mark the idea of getting us rubbish M21s to Jukola next year. We'll see if anything more comes of it...
