Orienteering - Urban race (British Sprints Qual) 19:13 [5] 3.5 km (5:29 / km) +20m 5:20 / km
(injured) shoes: inov8 Roclite295 (1)

Heat 1C

Made an effort to run this through but found it start to get uncomfortable around control 10 onwards. Thought course was fairly technical around controls 14-19.

Did ok but a little disappointed to be so slow. Was too hesitant as to deciding the route out of the controls.

Orienteering - Urban race (British Sprints Final) 17:09 [5] 3.3 km (5:12 / km) +25m 5:00 / km
(injured) shoes: inov8 Roclite295 (1)

Final B1.

Much less technical, I thought, than the qualifier. Almost ran in to pond on way to 1. Caught up with loads of other people in way around 2-5.

Big error after 9 - went down steps only to find dead end! Didn't really need to think after 13 as all seemed easy.

Better performance than earlier - 13th last - but knee really hurt on way to start and after I finished.

Orienteering - Urban (UBOC sprints training) 35:07 [3] 5.52 km (6:22 / km) +120m 5:44 / km
(injured) shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 9

Jogged around most of Duncan's courses on his University/Brandon Hill map. Time includes a few minutes of hanging around so managed to keep going okish.

Felt fairly comfortable for running in shoes that aren't Swoops for a change. Was careful going down but found that the knee was less happy with the hills today - going up the Christmas Steps and up Brandon Hill being the points where it hurted. Painkillers worn off now so no surprise that I don't feel quite so good as I did!

Still gives me some confidence that I'll be able to run the two sprints on Saturday.

Don't know if Adam was confused as to the sport today - seemed to be a lot of rugby tacking going on...

Orienteering race (NGOC Galoppen) 36:40 [1] 3.19 km (11:30 / km) +100m 9:56 / km
(injured) shoes: inov8 Roclite295 (1)

Walked around the short green. Was a pathetically short course (2.7km) done in a pathetically long time. Had a feeling that the green course would have taken me places I didn't want to go to...

Still managed to make a mess of controls 1, 2 and 6 (about 1min on each). Would have been close to a huge time loss on 5 as well but I was lucky to get in bang on having started by heading in the wrong direction and had no attackpoint...

As with yesterday, felt most comfortable going up the hills than on the flat/down. Stuck to tracks and extraction lines where I could as wasn't able to get my feet clear of brambles/brashings. Found 2-3 particularly hardgoing so glad was walking. May have upset Anne Donnell as my injured walking speed is still faster than most of the oldies' running paces.
