Running - off road race (Rogue 1 - Mallards Pike) 42:19 [4] 8.09 km (5:14 / km) +195m 4:40 / km
slept:3.0 weight:73.6kg shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Red/Blue

First night race of the series.

Great route - but sadly the least enjoyable of all the ones I've done as it was just so busy with road runners (c.300 in total). Fast easy flat start so was well down the field, then it got uphill and muddy and came to a stop. For 20 seconds. 7k of this - getting stuck behind poor off roaders on all the bits where I was strong, having to duck into the side to overtake, then being passed by them again moment we hit downhill track again. Overtook some people 5 or 6 times and could easily have lost 2 mins over the course.

Only chance to get ahead was the stream crossing 600 yards before the finish - as for some reason everybody stopped except me - and it was wide enough to get around. Was deeper than I expected though - shorts absolutely soaked.

As said, was a good route - but really like to have more than 5 ft of clear space ahead of me, and freedom to run at my own pace and see where my feet will land. Can't say i really noticed many reflectors today so missed out on some of the jokes apart from the ones on the long drive around the trails to get out.

Orienteering - Urban race (SWOC Danescourt) 57:50 [3] 10.96 km (5:17 / km) +80m 5:05 / km
slept:4.5 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 19

SWOC street-o around Danescourt. Started with the most ridiculously stupid route possible - quite amazed that so many others did the same behind me.

S-12-25-6-29-1-16-20-10-2-14-23-9-24-19-3-15-18-13-4-22-5-F.

6 wasn't worth visiting for the points. 29 big dog leg where only approach via start - should either have started or finished with it.

Tried to make better routes from here - but decided to go over river anyway as the streets and alleys fun there - knowing staying W side would have yielded better points. 2 not worth visiting, and took a very long time to get across to 14.

Time against me on way back so steadily cutting plan down each time. With Ben D from 4 onwards but dropped him on the hill back up.

Well beaten by Ben and Will - and justifiably so as was no way back after the starting mistake.

Today's pub better than yesterday's - got both seat and food!

Running - off road (MDC Cwmcarn) 1:12:44 [3] 10.72 km (6:47 / km) +445m 5:37 / km
slept:3.5 shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Red/Blue

Poor route choice getting here - 50 mins despite only being 5 miles or so. Got to Pye Corner and saw queues on dual carriageway. Then had to battle everyone else through the back streets of Rogerstone... should have just gone the direct way.

Run was actually quite nice - more of the woods seemed to be open this time. Got up to Twmbarlwm, then mostly followed MTB tracks back. No strapped ankles as tape ran out. "Good" ankle still very weak - worked hard and feels strained so hope its strengthening a bit. Trails were very rocky and rooty.

AGM seemed to go on for a long time - longer than NGOC's at least. The pub has been ruined - staircases moved since August, took 10+ mins to queue for drinks, to be told wait for food would be 90 mins. Looks like I'll starve again tonight.

Running (Chepstow Park Wood) 2:11:44 [3] 20.13 km (6:33 / km) +605m 5:41 / km
slept:4.0 weight:73.2kg shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4

Feeling tired this morning.

Crappy route through Chepstow Park Wood and then across valley to Earlswood and then back. Much more on road than was planned as seems that almost every marked footpath (on the map) does not exist, and there is no evidence on ground to suggest it ever did exist - at least not in the lifetime of the mature hedges.

The paths I did find were VERY overgrown and clearly had little footfall. Wise to it on the way back so stayed on road much more - but the paths I did take turned out to be shitty.

In terms of runnability, CPW varies from "Welsh" to impenetrable bramble - more often than not the latter.

Don't plan to run here again any time soon. Now join is done hope I won't have to.

Running - off road race (Gwent League Brecon) 43:29 [5] 9.92 km (4:23 / km) +50m 4:17 / km
slept:0.0 weight:73.4kg shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Red/Blue

Not sure why I went to this today - feeling awful after a very bad night of no sleep following another bad night of very little sleep.

Started near the back and got very boxed in. Having to stop on every corner - or go right around the outside. But ground conditions suited me much better than Bridgend - soft ground a bit churned up by previous races, and the hills were wide enough for me to not get held up. In the top field I made sure to get some clean space by running in the tussocks parallel to the worn track each lap - and surprisingly was making better progress than the people on track.

Steadily overtaking - closed the 60 yard gap to John Aggleton to overtake at 5.5k, and had widened lead to 100 yards by 8k when his calf couldn't take the shame any more and he retired (although he concedes he was beaten fair and square).

Lost 2 of the places I'd just gained on last 100 yards as I couldn't sprint - but quite happy with result given circumstances. 196th place and I think in top 4 Lliswerry again. Pushed very hard - felt like one of hardest runs I've done.

Enjoyed it. Maybe.

Got home and lay in bed for 4 hours as ran out of energy. Suppose it's time for breakfast now...
