With Ben along the coast from Witches point to Nash Point lighthouse and back. Lots and lots of people out. Timed to be back just before we needed our torches, and ahead of the rain :-)

Mud very sticky and grip was non-existant, not helped by both of us with very worn out shoes. From ladder valley eastward couldn't actually get up path at all so had to resort to climbing the side, coming down was equally slow and not so much fun.

Steady pace otherwise but legs feeling a bit tired. Suspect also a combination of still recovering from Christmas week/not eating enough/cold means I'm not on top form at the moment.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 2.0 km (5:00 / km) +80m 4:10 / km

Warm up to top of road with Matt and Ben.

Running - off road race (Kymin Winter Race) 37:37 [5] 6.68 km (5:38 / km) +380m 4:23 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Blk/Gn1

4th go at Kymin race, and first time running as MDC.

Got a bit of stitch on warm up so a little concerned - linked to bouldering yesterday? - but started ok. Trying to pace myself as burned out badly in previous years although main problem was actually very heavy legs that really weren't keen on running. That said, heading up the road, weren't many people in front.

Held up a fair bit on the first bit in the woods, but jumped the fence at stile and got space through the fields to overtake more and got past Ben just before the first top.

Gave up place back to Ben almost straight away to save him getting held up but nobody else got past until field (where lost 4 or so places) - was actually getting held up by a Mercia guy on most of single track.

Despite the tired legs, regained most places lost, and a few more, by the fields on the top to be back up with Ben. He was pushing hard, and putting in effort to stop me getting past so I had to settle for being behind him. We were fighting for 10th/11th at the top...

Stitch came back again for the fast descent so meant I wasn't quite as fast as I might have been capable of, lost couple of places here, then another couple in muddy bit before road.

Pretty strong finish to PB by about a minute, get 17th place (of 97), and people seemed to think I'd had a very good run. Descending went a lot better than it often does; vs Ben, lost 53s in the 10:02 it took from the tower (and the 3s on final bit from road to finish down to photographer moving to block the one good line through the mud!)

3rd MDC. 4th NGOC.

Showers still warm, but feeling a bit lightheaded post run so didn't join in the scrum for food in pub and walked into town instead.

Running - off road hills (MDC) 1:28:09 [3] 9.64 km (9:09 / km) +575m 7:03 / km
shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Blk/Gn1

MDC hills on NE side of the Garth.

Pretty tired from yesterday so right off the back all the way there.

8x c.120m with 35m climb. First one at the back then everyone else started tiring out - consistently 2nd/3rd fastest in group for last 6.

Falling back heading down - clearly tired, just good at hills :-)

Running hills 1:22:39 [4] 15.29 km (5:24 / km) +400m 4:47 / km
slept:5.0 weight:72.2kg shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 19

Lliswerry track session tonight so opted to run from home

5 or 6 full efforts on some hills where I know segments exist (or were about to be...), plus one 1/2 effort. Yielded 1 KOM, a 2nd, 3rd and a 6th. Would have got another 3rd place at the end had a fat man with a dog not just walked out right in front of me - requiring a full stop.

Seem to be going reasonably well and heart rate dropping down relatively quickly.

slept:5.0 shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Blk/Gn1

MDC run from Taffs Well - out via Castell Coch, back via the Black Cock and Craig yr Allt.

Legs still tired from last week - but got a good time (6th) on "the" segment despite getting completely held up on bottom third. Happy enough towards the back most of the time. Achieved a couple of genuine overtakes downhill on Craig yr Allt, although pretty slow once it got rocky.

Nice run and food after. Enough to go round that we didn't miss pudding :-)
