Orienteering - Urban (Roath Park) 38:11 [3] 7.32 km (5:13 / km) +95m 4:54 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 19

Street-O from Roath Park. Knee stiffened up a lot from yesterday, not helped by awful traffic yet again today (30 mins to motorway [1 mile from home] - the only successful route being rather improbable Civic Centre then up Ridgeway, then back down and around to get on at Malpas...)

Felt the knee all the way round but not got any worse - just wants a rest which will now get for a few days.

Sites all easy to find, helped by having been to many before. 50-50 route choices but think my decisions were reasonable. Bit more speedy towards the end as Ake caught me up at 14 - but I did manage to [just] finish ahead of him at the end!

Seems to be some sort of SI funny. Cleared twice - beeped both times. Check beeped on punch. Start beeped on punch. Yet it's given me start time of 9:00:00 and 508 minute split to 1. Firmware issue or just random error - as seems to be the way at the moment?

New watch came today so doing a lot of playing around with it.

Running - off road 55:36 [3] 6.7 km (8:18 / km) +265m 6:56 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4

Marshalling Craig yr Allt race.

Today was possibly a bigger test of will power and perseverance than the Fellsman in that it took almost 90 minutes to drive there. 30 mins from Trethomas to almost Bedwas (1/2 mile) and radio said the queue was all the way to Nantgarw (many miles). Turned around to give up but gave the lanes of Rudry a chance and did eventually get there...

Running was encouraging - only time knee was noticeable was the three main drops, fine rest of the time (but feeling it a bit now).

First phase was slow jog up with Helen, then to top where crept up behind Martyn to surprise him. All ok, and not feeling fatigued.

Second bit was more hurried than I wanted as was 6:58 when I moved on from top. First drop taken gingerly, second more gradual drop got into it. Had a reasonable wait for first runner (Ben, with a fair lead) to come through.

Third phase was with the sweepers, stopping off to take in the course until after the Taff Trail when sent off ahead to rejoin the back of the race and dismiss the remaining marshals as went through. First rocky down was taken slowly, no trouble with mud down.

Glad to get out in the end as a bit of a boost to confidence. Should have given the pub a miss - why take the food booking if they had no intention of taking the actual orders once we were there?

Watch behaving today - but if can't get a GPS signal on top of Craig yr Allt, won't get it anywhere! Suunto should turn up tomorrow :-)

Just the one fire on the horizon - looked to be fairly big one up by Senghenydd.

Running 37:30 [3] 6.6 km (5:41 / km) +60m 5:26 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 19

Flattish jog in the Forest to test knee without any sharp ascent/descents. Encouraging - first 5.5k without any trouble. Fairly sure I know where the problem is now.

Watch, however, been totally fucking about. 18 minutes to locate itself first time, and then had dropped the GPS signal twice in first 300m. Had to stop, fight to do a hard reset (I have a bust thumb, and the buttons don't always respond...), and then wait further 5 mins for it to locate again. Although route plot from here on was more reasonable, pace well off at times - took a further 13 and a half minutes to lock on properly.

Given all the other faults I've been living with for some time (HRM packed up after <30 uses, barometer that randomly jumps anything up to 1000m without warning, 15-hour battery life is actually only 9-hour in practice, and let's not start on the functionality and systems issues...) - have completely run out of patience and ordered new watch. Hope Suunto does better or Tommi will have some explaining to do!

Walking 1:30:00 [3] 7.0 km (12:51 / km) +150m 11:37 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 18

Marshalling above Redbrook and then walk in the bluebells after. Only one person injured in my section and they'd turned back before I got to them.

Knee ok on the steep track down to car (walked once, jogged second) but struggling on the rough down in bluebells - this was just after an incredibly steep climb though.

Think I will still give it another tester tomorrow.

Still feeling the cold a lot. Had to wear down jacket until 11.30.

Walking 1:15:00 [3] 6.5 km (11:32 / km) +150m 10:21 / km

Watching Cwm Lickey race. Ok most of the time but the steep down was not good.
