Running - off road (Machen Mountain) 1:06:12 [3] 10.09 km (6:34 / km) +510m 5:14 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Dayglo/Blk

Today was a good demonstration of why I don't take holiday (32.5 days still to take by end June...) if I can avoid it, and when I do, I generally make sure it's planned out to the minute. Nobody to run with today, and nothing to do - which could be fine, but not if my head is in wrong place, and so spent the whole of the afternoon in bed trying to zone out. And that was only a half day...

Did manage to get out in the end but knew I wasn't going to be running well. Need to regain some hills strength so did Machen out and back and found it hard work and slow. Time looks a little worse than it was as stopping to put on/take off layers, being pretty much unable to see anything on the top for fog and more stops for torch as the battery cable was unclipping from its restraints whilst I was running with it in my hand.

Orienteering - Urban race (Llandaf street-o) 55:01 [4] 10.95 km (5:01 / km) +70m 4:52 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 22 Yellow

SWOC street-o in Llandaf.

Not really in the mood for racing today so just went to the nearest site from the start then followed Matt's lead for the next. Meant a pretty terrible route choice with well over 1k done before I'd even got 30 points.

After 2nd control Matt continued south where as I doubled back to loop around north side of the river. Not helped by never having seen the two controls on top right of map so did very little north of railway line.

First control across the river was thinking "it's a very odd place for a school". After 30s or so realised the number 18 related to a different circle and should have been looking at clue 20. It didn't help any more and gave up on finding the answer and moved on.

Started skipping more and more from here. Towards end thought on balance would have time for at least one of 12 or 7 but opted to just be back early. Really didn't deserve the win tonight.

Thanks to Chris, Dunc and Dougie for hosting us tonight.

Running intervals (FoDAC) 1:15:32 [5] 11.4 km (6:38 / km) +5m 6:37 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 22 Yellow

FoDAC track session on a cold evening with the wind blowing from the east (or at least felt like it was).

Bashed a toe against a bedpost this morning and ripped the skin off it - so it's been hurting all day. Put a plaster on for tonight and actually felt ok for running (maybe distracted by the cold).

4 lots of 6 minutes with 3 mins rest between - aiming for negative splits. Supposed to have been HM pace, 10k pace, 5k pace, 3k pace but was probably a bit fast from the start. Did manage to get further each time though - as per last week running around with Chloe and Rich.

Paces 3:50/k, 3:41/k, 3:34/k, 3:26/k - and fairly consistent throughout the efforts. For reference, 5k PB pace is 3:37/k.

Didn’t feel up for a long session and wasn’t.

Running 36:58 [3] 7.04 km (5:15 / km) +180m 4:39 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 22 Yellow

Feeling really tired today so spent a lot of it lay in bed. Eventually forced myself out and it felt cold.

Didn't think I was running well - particularly up the last hill, but seems it was my fastest pace on this loop.

Running race (Newport Parkrun) 19:30 [5] 5.0 km (3:54 / km) +15m 3:51 / km
slept:4.0 shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Blk/Gn2

Original plan was to go to Cardiff, but legs still not feeling good after Thursday and Duncan hadn't got road shoes with him. Worried all the time about idiots pushing me over from not looking where they are going as per last time I was here. Now running winter route so meant lots more overtaking and opportunities to be knocked over.

Started reasonably quickly and gaining places all the way round - but finding it hard worked and still 20s or so slower than I wanted to be for a hard run. Over a minute behind Matt.

Probably won't be rushing back here again any time soon - don't really like the winter course.

Orienteering (Gwaelod) 1:01:18 [3] 6.83 km (8:59 / km) +330m 7:14 / km
shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Blk/Gn2

SWOC local at Gwaelod. Only something like 4th time I've been forest orienteering since busting my ankle last November - and first tired I've not given up part way round due to ankle. Doesn't mean ankle was very happy though...

Physically struggling - particularly uphill.

Time losses
1-2 - went around to the wooden circle but then managed to miss the indistinct path and went down the big one by the fence and back down.
6-7 - left 6 navigating to 8. Fortunately noticed had missed a number and went back up the hill.
9 - not in the right place. going pretty slow through the brambles and not seeing a nice way down strumbled upon control at top the of the slope not bottom.
10 - went around top, probably not the best. Took a while to cross the dip which the path runs along.
16 - didn't find a nice place to cross stream so right round path slowly.
22 - too far south and hit the path.

Maybe take it easy tomorow as feeling quite tired.
