Running - off road (Teme) 2:16:02 [3] 21.2 km (6:25 / km) +540m 5:42 / km
slept:3.0 shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Blk/Gn2

Sticking with the plan, but feeling quite tired. It was only ever going to be slow today...

Parked the car in Clifton and ran down to the Ham Bridge (or not - the signed footpath took me off somewhere else but realised quite quickly). Then a pretty slow drag up towards Martley and then along the Worcestershire Way north. This mostly follows the ridge but quite often drops down 50m onto a road, then after 100m heads back up the ridge.

Ground was quite slippery and mud sticking which didn’t help my speed. Was also very slow on the steep downs as often rooty and also saving my knees after 3 hard days. The last drop to the main road at Great Witley was decptively slick and was sliding most steps.

From Abberley school was having to give a lot more though to map reading as signage was incredibly poor, or absent. The first fields after the school weren’t nice but *most* of the descent was smooth grass fields. Pleased to get to Stanford Bridge as was about 2k of no signs!

Tiring now and aware the hill to the church is bigger than it looks. Through the woods was wet and pheasanty (included caged pheasants - I assume for the posh twats with poor aim?) and once out again the signs stopped and had to do a lot of map interpretation. After the next stop for missing signs did actually find the path - about as distinct as pathless forest. Bridleway it joined onto was little better.

Last bit back to Clifton was ok navigation, but uphill and there were a couple of overgrown fields that weren’t fun.

Would have liked to be quicker today, but accept it’s been a tough week and pootling is reasonable. Lots of segments where I’ve got int fastest 5% which is surprising. Given this is third HM distance for the month - think I will go ahead and shorten tomorrow’s linking run to avoid duplication and also a big hill up onto Bringsty.

Went for an explore under Knightsford Bridge after - it’s very elegant and much prettier from below (and it’s not really possible to see the span from anywhere else). Architecture has a late 50s feel about it but thought it was 10 years newer. The flood plain span down the road is fairly generic.

Orienteering - Urban (Coopers Edge Maprun) 58:14 [4] 13.07 km (4:27 / km) +55m 4:22 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 22 Yellow

Maprun from the new estate in Gloucester on other side of the motorway. Not very big but quite a warren and confused early on.

S-11-2-3-1-21-13-14-5-24-25-15-17-29-16-30-7-20-26-19-27-28-6-8-9-23-12-22-F. 560 points from 600 and the “win”.

Lots of hesitation early on and made a 90 degree error as confusing. Not sure I had the best start but was able to plan a route quite quickly heading up the east side. On long run to 25 was looking at the middle and saw 30 was accessible from north only so changed to get the middle section after 17, and to skip out 18. Think this worked well - and got to see a frog in the road.

Running at the top and down to 27 was quite quick and simple, and plenty of options to cut on way back if short of time. Went for 10 but misread rhe map and the path I tried didn’t join. As only 10 points abandoned as knew 22 at end would be worth more - but it shouldn’t have taken more than 1:45 extra to get via the road so still would have been worth it.

4 mins left at 22 and decided not enough time for 4 and think was right. Quite enjoyable and running well for having quite a busy week so far.

Very late finish with having to search for the wheelchair guy (at the furthest point from finish at 80 minutes), waiting for food, and then the motorway being reduced to 20mph for 10 miles as some idiot was driving the wrong way down from worcester. Police had just stopped it as we got to Strensham - but past 11pm by the time was indoors.

Orienteering - Urban (SWOC Thornhill) 58:08 [3] 11.56 km (5:02 / km) +135m 4:45 / km
slept:5.5 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 22 Yellow

SWOC street-o planned by Clare around Thornhill.

As ever, not really into this so just became a fastish social run with Mark. Discussing orders to get them - but as my head wasn't really into it was forgetting some and wondering where Mark was going!

S-6-22-3-25-5-19-28-4-23-8-14-27-17-11-16-7-10-12-30-18-26-24-13-29-21-F. Think 470 points - so despite not "racing" seriously, only 10 pts off the win.

Routes taken were all ok, but possibly a bit slow in starting on them. In hindsight probably should have got 26 after 19. Lost a bit of time after 10 heading down the dead end.

Original intention after 30 was to get 20, but on cycle track looked and realised it was about 1k of running so skipped and went for 18 instead. This became best opportunity for 26. Knew wasn't too much time left at the end to come up the hill. Controls not far away but take deceptively long time to get to/from - 1 was on the cusp of being worthwhile but headed straight back instead.

Enjoyable run out, and pleased with how I was running given how much yesterday's track session has taken out of me. Great to see Caroline out and about too.

Running intervals (FoDAC) 1:23:35 [5] 17.05 km (4:54 / km) +5m 4:54 / km
slept:6.0 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 22 Yellow

Similar session to last week - 2 min efforts this time (and 4 less in total), same recovery. Expected this to be a tough sessions and it was, not helped by the wind.

As per last week, first half were anti-clockwise and slower than the second half (clockwise), with pace differential between two directions same as last week too. This week was slower though.

Definitely pushing harder in second half, so maybe just had warmed up more. Running with James Nelmes (who I don't know) for the last 4 which kept me going as had been on my own for a period as slowing more on recoveries. Was definitely closer to Cory by the end even if Chloe as getting further away.

Quite a tough one, and an extra k on last week. Hopefully good prep for the HM next month.

Last Gloucester league of season, but only 2nd I've been to despite being entered for the full set. Never really going to be my thing as fast and not so technical course, and still got dregs of this cold so running can be hard work.

Started a bit too far back so getting boxed in a lot from the start. Taking some very wide lines on the corners but still having people cut me in after - they can't have it both ways, my track training came in useful at forcing a way through.

First full lap was getting held up on the two single file sections, and again had to force a way through. Pretty cautious going into the stream each time (ankle taped, but the tape had tore on the warm up - very rare for that to happen), but did get past Andy Monro exiting the first time, and never saw him again.

Generally overtaking the whole time, but cold made it feel really hard. Legs not so bad... Started third lap with a big empty space in front of me but must have closed in and passed some more by the end. Only noted one person overtake me and still be ahead at the finish.

Tough one - but think it was a reasonably good run for me at the moment. 4th Forest as Pete made a guest appearance today.

Running 1:53:58 [3] 21.76 km (5:14 / km) +95m 5:08 / km
slept:5.5 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 22 Yellow

No Parkrun today as Run Director. A very easy job as everything was under control. 175 finishers so quite busy today in the Forest.

All under control for clear up too - so over to Bishops Cleeve to meet with Tom Cochrane and jog around the new estates and check progress. No significant differences from what I mapped, and with new building my map is now more correct than it was. Not enough completed to justify a full mapping trip any time soon but it will be good when its all finished!

Dropped Tom back at his car and carried on for a bit further to make distance. As the explore had been 6 miles didn’t think I’d want to do the planned Tredington run but went for it anyway and cut across fields towards the end to save some distance. Going quite well considering, got an extra long run in the bag.

Staying with mum tonight. 35 minute queue to get out of worcester as severn trent have shut off the main road :-(
