Couldn’t face Chepstow Road in the wind again so High Cross and Duffryn loop. Was against the wind for first 4K then mostly sheltered apart from a bit of Forge Lane. Pace was easy - not trying to put any effort in, this seems to translate to 4:30/km at the moment.

Lots and lots of people out walking today - the most I’ve seen since the 5 mile rule came in in May. Fairly surprising as the wind was on and off strong and quite rainy.

Waited for the rain to stop. Out towards Alway as it’s the last bit of Newport I’ve not been to before. Chepstow Road out and back is fairly tedious so for future trips this way (there may be a few whilst stuck at home...) I’ll try and find a route that’s a bit more interesting and less windy. Quite wet underfoot by Lliswerry lake.

Another fairly easy run from home. I'm mentally coping with longer runs from home but it's going to be hard getting a variety of routes in the dark as the streetlights are very focussed. Need another 7.4k to get the 300k target for the month - which I wasn't expecting to be close to this time last week.

There's now a big bruise on my leg where the dog bit me on Wednesday.

Easy run as the legs weren’t so great- but they got going so stuck with the pace and made it up to 10k by doing Chartists Drive and the Rudgeway. New street lights going up on Chartists Drive so this pavement will be very well lit but the other side of the road will be dark.

Run with Matt after the rain had stopped - even a little cold so went for a warmer t shirt than I'd planned.

Exploring a few parks that I'd not yet been to - which were a bit slippery, has it been raining much today? Quite nice to be somewhere that I don't know where I am and am guessing!

Quite a big climb up through Beechwood, with a bit of sliding when cutting across the grass but at least this got broken up by getting bitten by a dog. Stopped and talked to the owner who was suitably guilty but didn't kick up a fuss as it hadn't left any visible marks - but it did hurt a bit for the next 20 minutes.

Explored some new paths back down to Chepstow Road (muddy grass), and lucky in finding the footpath back up to Christchurch. Thought worth trying luck on doing Caerleon Road but the worker confirmed it's blocked to pedestrians too so had to do the cycle path with no lights. Did it ok, and if anything it passes more quickly when you can't see how far away everything is.

By this point I was on for extending to HM distance so went up Brynglas where Matt split off and I did various extensions. Had to do same climb up to Risca Road as yesterday and again left knee didn't feel quite right after having been totally ok the rest of the time (still better than yesterday). Now well up on distance for this week.

We're still none the wiser as to what the massive bangs were at lunchtime.

Riverfront - as was inevitably going to happen at some point.

Suspected the watch had lost a bit of distance by the bridge - probably in all the subways - and this meant my overall pace was underestimated, so resulted in me running harder than I wanted to to maintain. Although nothing especially hard until coming uphill near the end.

Did a few additions to make the distance a bit longer. Aim for this week to do at least 50k so anything over 7k is bonus distance allowing other days to be shorter. Maybe shouldn't have as something was throwing the left knee out a bit towards the end. Initially thought shoes but pretty sure its just tightness caused by sitting down all day (as we've been told to) and not having gone back into my post-run stretching routine from the spring as it's cold and dark. Working on it more now.

Hopefully have working heating now.
