Back into the situation of freedom to do things, but nothing really to do. Eventually forced myself out to go around Ewyas Harold Common.

Started with loop down to Pontrilas to make it easier to link up in future, back up along the riverbank and then road to get to Dore Abbey, which surprisingly was open. Was a tough climb up from there but did it in one go before stopping in a gateway at the top to enjoy the view and talk to a sheep.

Various wiggles on the common on the way down - but I’ve explored the lower bits before. It’s a nice place to be on a sunny day and a good vantage point for train spotting in the SAS playground.

Came home via the little roads with a few stops. Found the council notice inviting Andrew RT Davies to stick a flagpole up his arse, before looking around a genuine relic in Skenfrith - an X reg Citroen CX. The cat didn’t find me today though.

Nothing really to do today so didn't do much. Got out but barely made it into England as Tidenham tunnel was top of the list for days with nothing on.

Timed to run to be when everyone should be sat indoors watching TV, but clearly nobody cares as the cycle track was incredibly busy.

The tunnel was nice, but coming from the south you went from bright sunshine to very dark as it bends sharply right after the mouth. I think the sudden change in lighting, along with the corner (shown by lamps every 8m at below waist height) really messed with my balance as I felt like I was going to fall over until it straightened out.

Interestingly, the watch distance was increasing all the way through the tunnel matching the m distances on each light (and beeped a km at the lamp I expected it to too) - but it still went mad coming out and jumped the distance forward. I did stop for some length of time after in each direction for the watch to go green again - but heading out it stayed orange so gave up and stopped a very long time at the turnaround.

KMs after the tunnel both recorded unbelievably slow (5:30/km??!) for downhill - and having manually measured the run distance and got within 100m of what the watch did, really not sure how it's managed to get a reasonable plot if it was ahead on distance at the end of the tunnels and didn't know where I was going to run after.

Went back after and walked through, and beyond around the quarries a bit (very steep footpath there). The tunnel is much better for walking - because you can't see out either end by the time you are in the middle your eyes have adjusted and you can see fairly clearly. Definitely a place to come back to.

Fairly easy paced short run today around the bottom of Gaer and up the cycle path. Turns out my legs didn't have much in them anyway so would have struggled to go up the hill any faster. Also fairly windy today and had that against me for last 2k.

Still a mystery as to what works are going on at the bottom of Gaer. Now lots of spray paint, and wooden stakes with distance markers, lots of other wooden stakes marking things out in the bracken, and an area where the top layer of ground has been removed. Suspect I won't be able to come down this path before long.

Again working later than I wanted as seem to have found quite a major problem this afternoon, look forward to escalating this to see how quickly everyone decides it’s not their problem and they shouldn’t have been expected to notice it in the 20 years since the system was migrated... Had to cancel on a detour into Bristol to meet some colleagues before the run.

S-1-29-9-3-2-4-10-7-22-12-8-13-5-18-11-6-27-26-17-25-16-20-28-30-19-24-15-23-14-F. 600 points

No real plan to start as the main fun of a score is working out what to do whilst running, so looked for “interesting” ways to join things up together and avoid too many doglegs. Maybe if taking it seriously I might have gone for the shortest routes - but can’t honestly say I was looking for them at all, just “that’s a route and it looks nice”

Struggled to get going a bit early on and found the running 4-10-7 fairly tough. Caught out by a path on map that doesn’t exist 7-22. Interesting routes = map updates.

Recognised the path around 11 from some Tuesday night runs from the past. Had a few other moments of familiarity but wasn’t of particular help.

Tempted to climb the fence through the hedge 21-30 but went around the footpath. 30 being the only significant dogleg it really did feel tedious so probably right I didn’t extend it by taking the shorter route. Nearly did 28-30-21 which would have been better, but I thought that might then make 21 feel tedious.

Flagging from 19 onwards but this is a long run for me. Didn’t really enjoy the long way around to get 24 but at least relatively simple to finish. Know the town centre well enough to do a route that works without reading the map, which might have been quicker than the shortest.

Overall, nice to get out and be forced to go further than normal with the distraction of planning where to go, and good to confirm I can still run whilst reading a map and not get hopelessly lost. Not the most spectacular venue but convenient and hopefully the start of a much longer season than we Welshies had last year.

Working later than I wanted to again today as making good progress. I think I'm now (self taught) the only Aviva employee that understands quite a lot of the legacy Aviva business, in addition to being the last one to understand the AXA business that they haven't made redundant... Whilst it's interesting stuff, I still get the impression that Aviva York isn't big on detail and doesn't value knowledge - so we'll see whether there is still a job at the end of the project.

Canal today. I don't do this often any more as I find the canal too boring and flat. This was plenty enough.

Found the steep part of the hill fairly hard despite trying not to, and the rest of the run from there seemed hard too. Felt like a decent sprint at the end - I guess this it what makes me stronger?

Shorter, easier day, although it felt reasonably hard once down at the bottom.

BVP, Gaer and up the cycle path.

Thought seriously about doing a track session today but timing didn't work out. Maybe next week if the weather is better!

Finding it hard to force myself out again. It's just not so exciting down here.

Double Ridgeway with a reasonably direct route out. Felt like I was working pretty hard after the turn around and coming back - surprised the segment times were so good as I was thinking of doing an short easy day.

Still going with the old shoes - and to be honest they still look in pretty good condition - but I do want to start moving away from them for harder road runs.
