SNOWBOARD (mammoth) 4:00:00 [3]

how lucky could we get? woke up to fresh powder everywhere!! i got so excited i could hardly breathe. the snow kept falling all day long, ended up with more than 15 inches. we packed and rushed out of the condo as early as we could. got some breakfast @ canyon lodge again, ran into ryan and his gf. pretty soon we were on the slopes, chair 8 again, heading over to 25, but it was way too brutal over there, super windy on the lifts, so we kept looping roller coaster and played around in the park with ivan, naomi, eva, and V. i video the boys doing jumps. it was sooooooo much fun! after a few rounds, we went up to facelift and the 5. the top was closed. boarded until 2pm. took a 30min break for some hot chocolate around noon. what an awesome day. my lower back was worked! i must have pulled it or something. could not bend down to tie laces and getting in/out of the bindings were a challenge.

note: time included lifts but no breaks.

SNOWBOARD (Mammoth) 6:00:00 [3]

arrived at mammoth fairly late last night. caught only a few hours of sleep. we ate breakfast @ canyon lodge and hit the slope soon after, starting with chair 8, heading to 25 and then 9. it hadn't snowed at all in january. the snow was hard packed and FAST, icy in some areas, especially on the ridges where the winds had blown off all of the snow. i'm not a fan of this condition. oh well, we took what we could get! the top was opened but i didn't dare to venture up there with the fast snow. the rest of the group did. i hung out mostly at facelift, 25, 9, and 5 (upper and lower dry creeks). the lines were long at the bottom so i stayed away. we boarded hard and caught the last lift at 4:10pm to head back to canyon, then took the gondola to the village to meet up with ivan & naomi @ whiskey creek. there were a couple of bday parties but we stayed in and watched a movie (remake of psycho on hbo) instead.

note: time included lifts but no breaks.

RUN (backbay) 1:14:00 [3] 8.02 mi (9:14 / mi) +258ft 8:57 / mi
ahr:157 max:170

set garmin to alert when HR reached 160. tried to do the entire run in aerobic zone. felt really good the entire time. i could keep at this pace for hours. initially, HR was jumping all over the place. garmin kept beeping and beeping. onlookers were giving me the eye, so embarrassing. that was when HR reached its highest @ 170 (maybe this was due to drinking coffee before the run? i am so lame!) afterthe 1st mile, HR stayed steady. i had difficulty holding back. the longer the run, the harder it was to keep HR down and still maintained the same pace. i gave up after a while and just tried to keep the garmin from beeping. it got dark really quick. ran partially in the dark.

note: right lower calf still hurts, especially during the first couple of miles. need to figure out why.

MOUNTAIN BIKING (blackstar) 1:08:29 [3] 8.35 mi (7.3 mph) +1076ft
shoes: santa cruz blur

planned to ride whiting with G after work but it was closed. went to blackstar instead and tried to ride as far as i could before the sun set, didn't bring lights. started at 4:10p, managed to ride for only an hour. went to BJ's after, gained all the calories back and more. c'est la vie!

RUN (24hr metro) 41:00 [3] 4.0 mi (10:15 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra

got to the gym really late. was surprised to find it so crowded at 9:30pm. had to wait for a treadmill. walked for the 1st 10min, ran for 30min @ 6.5mph or faster, then walked for another minute to cool down. felt really good. i've found my steady speed. i can keep going at this pace for a long while.
