Having issues with my clue sheet holder, including having one of the elastics come out of the buckle(?) , so stuffed it into the front of my pants as the start buzzer went off. Forgot to start my garmin until control 1, so the first 1:10 of my run is not included on the trace.
Fortunately, the indistinct trail from 1-2 was made much more distinct by being flagged, so took that. Retrieved my clue sheet holder and got that re-situated - might have lost a few seconds on the way to 2, but there were enough other folks in the area, that I got it with minimal problems.
3 was another story - rough compass and a bit uphill past the trail and over the broad nose. Saw some rocky ground, but was still mostly on compass. Saw a small reentrant and a green patch and realized I'd been drifting right - but knew where I was. Angled a bit more right, I thought, saw a charcoal platform. Took a bearing from the wrong charcoal platform on the map, headed off, crossed the trail at the right distance, then some rocky stuff, and saw a depression-like area, but no control. Spazzed downhill a bit more, getting more confused. Headed back up when I realized I must be too far N, but no luck. Bailed out up to the trail after a bit more aimless wandering, finally got re-oriented and found 3.
OK - 4, not a lot of energy up the hill to 5.
Trail to 6, walking more of the uphill than I wanted, but that's what was left in my legs. Nailed it with several others.
OK to 7.
Between a bee-line and contouring to 8, took it easy, recognizing the bingo aspects, but checked off 2 charcoal platforms below me on the way and saw it.
OK to 9, slow up the hill to 10
Over to the trail to 11 - feeling very out of shape and overweight, mostly because I am.
OK to 11, 12.
Run-in was pitiful, but I was done.

Note

Wandering and driving around Valley Forge. Had never been here before - neat place.

Beth called to ask how to make the water stop flowing out of the ice maker in the freezer - was gushing out onto the floor. Sounds like the auto shut-off valve was stuck open. Talked her though - go to the basement, look for where the small plastic tube connects to the copper pipe under where the kitchen sink is. Yes, you need to move the drop ceiling tiles out of the way. Turn the valve whichever way makes the water stop. Glad there were others around to help with mopping up the mess.
Frustrating to not be able to handle this being 7 hours away.
