Blue Hills Traverse. Was really not in physical shape for this. Tried running out from the start triangle following J-J's, "well, this way looks as good as any other" option for the right route. Alex came chugging by very shortly thereafter and they became less and less visible as I rounded each subsequent corner or crested the next rise. Took forever to get to 1. I opted to go left of where I figured the pack would for the middle and last part of the leg - crossed the paved road closer to the reservoir, then SSE through the eastern notch and sidehilled in. Went too high closer to the control and waded through the green slash.
Exited 1 angling further W than intended - crossed between the 2 marshes and up the rocky slope and came into 2 from the NW. Not as bad a route as I feared. Dropped and took the left route to 3.
To 4, decided to go right for the safer attack along the stone wall - but a bit longer and more climb.
Alone at 6, but saw quite a few folks coming in behind me on the dogleg.
Long run to 10 - stayed more right on the first part - did not want the long run along the side of the big road past the visitors center. Tried approaching 10 along the top of the cliffs - big mistake. That was dark green up there and no view of the small rock face past all the big ones. Ended up dropping down, reorienting along the bottom of he steeper part, then slog back up - at least 4 minutes.
Starting to cramp a bit at this point. More walking than slow running.
Been all by myself for most of the last half of the course, until Steve T came bouncing up as I came into 14. We were back and forth a bit going to 15, but he was still running after that, while my legs had endured enough.
Overall a solid type-2 fun event.
