Tuesday Feb 28

Run (pavement) 32:21 [2] 5.7 km (5:41 / km) +75m 5:20 / km
ahr:165 max:151
Evening run, mid teens, breezy.

Felt pretty good once I got warmed up. Relaxed pace.

Monday Feb 27

Note
Needed some of those morning-after pills today.

The morning-after the first time I've used my skiing and poling muscles in over a month, it was interesting getting out of bed.

Sunday Feb 26

XC Ski (Skating) 45:43 [3]
ahr:151 max:165
Gunstock - 9" of very fluffy dry powder, with no base underneath. Had been rolled on the lanes and Brook Run, but was just too fluffy to set up. Hadn't rooled across the street - couldn't get up the hills.

Could skate if I was gentle pushing off. Thinnest spots in the woods under the pines.

Fairly cold and some wind -at least I was dressed for it.

Saturday Feb 25

Run (trails) 41:00 [2] 6.5 km (6:18 / km)
ahr:156 max:165 shoes: Nike Air Assail Trail
Ahern trails, snowing, about 2-3" very light and fluffy.
Some ice underneath in a few spots.
Trying out / breaking in new running shoes. Early birthday present to myself.

Wednesday Feb 22

Run (treadmill) 24:00 [2]
ahr:139

Saturday Feb 18

Run (trails) 32:00 [3]
ahr:153 max:166
Ahern, cold - mid-teens, strong winds.

Thursday Feb 16

Run (Treadmill) 28:00 [2] +50m
ahr:145 max:164
Hotel treadmill - a little bit of "elevation" added for variety.
Core Strength 5:00 [1]

Tuesday Feb 14

Run 27:10 [4] 5 km (5:26 / km)
ahr:152 max:169
5K on hotel treadmill
Core Strength 5:00 [1]
Crunches, pushups, situps

Monday Feb 13

Run (treadmill) 25:00 [1]
ahr:131 max:163
Easy pace on treadmill at hotel.

Needed to work the kinks out after 4 1/2 hours on the road - should have been a 3 hour drive.

Massachusetts drivers remaining a bit overexhuberant on slippery roads.

Saturday Feb 11

Run (trails) 40:00 [3] 6 km (6:40 / km)
ahr:152 max:165 shoes: VJ Spikes 1
Trails at Ahern, just before dusk. mid 20s, little to no wind.
Down by beach, 4 guys pushing a bob house onto the ice by hand. Guess it's getting a bit thicker, although their pickups were left on shore..

Still some ice along the trails, it's much harder when the overnight temps are in the single digits than the 30s. Noticed more of a tendency to slip.

Inner bike loop, then the south trail and the S bike loop, first clockwise, then counterclock wise.

After doing the S bike loop twice, went back to the main loop trail and down the big hill. Just about lost it a couple of times. Back on the inner bike loop and back to the car.
Note
Saw what I can only describe as an "ice flower" just by the side of the trail - about 36" x 12" looks like the ice had been pushed up (frost action?) from below and had blossomed out in splinters. Wish I'd had a camera with me.
All the puddles on the trails were frozen solid, along with the marshes. Looks like it was a snap freeze., many of hte puddles were absolutely clear, with leaves suspended in the ice.

Tried carrying my GPS, this time without the external antenna. Tried carrying it in the pocekt of my jacket, but kept losing the satellite signal. I guess the trick of carrying the GPS a fanny pack, with the antenna shoved up in my hat and the wire threaded up under my shirt works best.

Probably ought to break down and get a new complete system - FRWD or Garmin 305 that's designed to make this easier...

Wednesday Feb 8

Run (treadmill) 28:00 [2]
ahr:146 max:162
hotel treadmill

Sunday Feb 5

Run long (Trails) 1:02:00 [3] ** 8 km (7:45 / km) +150m 7:05 / km
ahr:152 max:164 shoes: VJ Spikes 1
Route:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=9920
Mid 40s, was raining all night, water everywhere. Still some snow and ice on the trails, running water on most of the trails going up/down hillsides.
Saw quite a few deer tracks, some turkey, and a lot of beaver sign by the marsh.

Saturday Feb 4

Run long (Trails) 1:01 [3] ** 10 km (6 / km)
ahr:157 max:167 shoes: VJ Spikes 1
Snowmobile trails from Ahern.
CW Loop trail and inner bike trail to between beaches - 12:45
Up hill behind prison to Robbie Mills field - 10:53
Behind dump, checked out trails between Meredith Ctr Rd and Parade Rd. 20:40
Trail junction "4" back along Parade Rd to Meredith Ctr Rd - 10:12
Back to car - 6:53
Still snow and ice covered for the most part, quite a bit of mud and water also. Managed to keep my feet mostly dry. Saw a lot of deer tracks, no bear this time.
Had GPS with me - trying to develop tracks for where the trails are. Using external antenna was a pain - kept losing the signal when I had it in a fanny pack. Snaked the wire under my short and put the antenna in my hat - seemed to work OK.

Wednesday Feb 1

Elliptical trnr 24:00 [2]
ahr:114 max:127
Never tried one of these before - uses a different set of muscles.

Looking at my HR monitor - not a real intense workout.
