Sunday Nov 27

Run (pavement) 27:00 [2]
Slow run -Union Ave, Gilford Ave (13:13), Ridgewood Ave, return by back roads
Right about 32 F, just after dark, a bit of slush on the sidewalks and road shoulders

Saturday Nov 26

XC Ski (skating) 1:15:00 [3]
First on snow session of the season!!
90 minute drive up to Bretton Woods. Conditions were quite good - fairly even snow cover, a few thin spots in the woods and places where water had seeped up into the snow and there were rough ice patches.
Technique was so-so. Heading up (south) on the Beech Hill trail - arms just gave out and my legs followed quickly. But it was fun coming back down.
A lot of very good skiiers out there today - looked like some HS and college teams.

Thursday Nov 24

Walking 45:00 [1]
Walking the trails around Ahern
3-4" of snow - first snow of season!! Took some nice pictures, dreaming of getting on skiis soon. Would be better dreams if I was in shape and about 15 lbs lighter, but I is what I is (at least for today - might see what I can do about changing things a bit).

Sunday Nov 20

Orienteering race 3:13:22 [3] 13.3 km (14:32 / km)
24c shoes: '05 Integrator Hightops
Blue Hills Traverse - unsure the day before if I was going to go. Very little training recently, but Beth prodded me to go, work on the house will still be there when I got back, and it would give her a day without me underfoot.
Pre-race strategy of start slow and get slower if necessary, turned into start near the front, push it a bit too much (that's what happens when you're situated near the front and there's a narrow trail that everyone is heading down). Pace OK for the first half, but started getting bothered by blisters - relatively new hightop Integrators were rubbing on the left heel. Faded on long leg, then a copuple of very bad route choces and some serious cramps put the final nail in the coffin. Finished the course, but the last part wasn't much fun....

I guess the concept of getting inshape and staying in shape for events like this has some merit.

Traverse - Splits

Monday Nov 14

Run (pavement) 24:00 [3]
short jaunt during lunch to counteract the lethargy I felt all morning....

pretty good pace, tried to push on the uphills.

No heart rate info - I think the battery on the chest strap is dead.

Sunday Nov 13

Walking 1:00:00 [1]
Hiking at Ahern, much of the time with a squirming 3-year old nephew on my shoulders. Followed a new trail, near the industrial park, moderately well marked. Lots of new leaves onthe ground. Saw no deer, turkeys, or pirates (8 year old nephew was looking hard for all 3).

Wednesday Nov 9

Run (treadmill) 22:00 [2]
ahr:150 max:168
Treadmill at hotel - uninspired, but I broke a good sweat...

Tuesday Nov 8

Run warm up/down (pavement) 24:43 [2]
ahr:157
been overdoing it at work, or work has been overdoing me..
just finishing up with Internal Audit and the Regulators show up - arggh.

A moderate run just after dark through town.
Still a lot of water coming over teh dam downtown - Wonder how much over normal the big lake still is??
