Wednesday Sep 27

Run (pavement) 35:00 [4] 4.0 mi (8:44 / mi)
ahr:160 max:176 shoes: Brooks
Brisk evening run from the hotel.
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=386569
4 mile loop, trying to relax and push at the same time.
Felt pretty good at the end.

Tuesday Sep 26

Run hills (pavement) 29:00 [3] 5.15 km (5:38 / km) +70m 5:16 / km
ahr:158 max:170 shoes: Nike Air Assail Trail
Gilford hills loop
nothing special - but I did get out and break a sweat

Sunday Sep 24

Run (trails) 40:00 [3] 5.5 km (7:16 / km) +110m 6:37 / km
shoes: Nike Air Assail Trail
Trail run in the rain at Ahern. Had the place to my self. Apparently the heavy rain, thunder and distant lightning kept everyone else at home.

Needed a break from construction and fretting about all the crap at work, and decided a good run was just the thing. Figured I was goig to sweat a bitl so running in the rain was no biggy. Just wish I put in my contacts - now I remember why I got them in the first place...

Wednesday Sep 13

Exer Bike 20:00 [1]
ahr:102 max:120 shoes: Brooks
light biking at the hotel.
felt OK - reading the Wall St Journal as a distraction. Broke a sweat at least. Head felt OK.
Note
Still popping advil and tylenol on a regular basis.
Head is now itching a bit, things must be healing.

The staples aren't visible unless I move my hair aside a bit - but it is time for a haircut. Think I'll wait until next week when the staples are out. Just thinking about having the barber's clippers snag one of them makes me queasy.

General concensus is that the staples look pretty cool - almost like a zipper.

Tuesday Sep 12

Note
(injured)
moderate headache still, slight unsteadiness at times.

Sunday Sep 10

Orienteering race 1:41:05 [3] **** 6.3 km (16:03 / km)
ahr:135 max:159 spiked:8/11c shoes: '05 Integrator Hightops
A so so day. Minor error at #2, then a major bobble (15+ minutes) in the boulder field.
Note
(injured)
Finished my run, took a shower and ready to head back and help with grilling then take a turn at the start /finish. But walking from the back of the car to the side and smacked right into a corner of the lift gate with my head. Hurt like hell for a minute or so, shook it off and finished packing. Noticed a drop of blood on my sleeve, then another, and another. Used a paper towel and got it under control.
Drove over to the pavilion and saw Lex - asked her how bad it looked. She said "off to the ER - you need stitches". Started feeling faint and nauseous. Got laid down on the ground and felt better.

Was told that under no circumstances was I to drive myself anywhere. Caved in to logic, called Beth to meet me at the Exeter Hospital ER and to bring a son who could drive my car home.

By the time we got to the ER, the bleeding had pretty much stopped, so no priority. Sat around for 3 1/2 hours, then got 9 staples to pull things back together.

Fortunately, the gash is in the hairline, so it won't mar my devilishly good looks, at least for a couple of years when the hairline recedes back a bit..
The zipper stays in for a week.

Red Day 2 - Splits

Saturday Sep 9

Event: UNO Camping Weekend

Orienteering race 1:25:11 [3] **** 6 km (14:12 / km) +220m 12:00 / km
ahr:157 max:173 spiked:10/15c shoes: VJ Spikes 1
Red course at Camping weekend - Saturday
An OK run, had a few problems in areas I shouldn't have and some problems in areas I should have anticipated it and adjusted.
A rather warm day in the 80s, but the humidity wasn't too bad. Still was sweating a lot.
Orienteering race (night) 45:34 [3] *****
ahr:159 max:173 spiked:5/7c shoes: '05 Integrator Hightops
Night-O
JJ's World's Hardest Night-O
With a pack to about #5, a few folks to #6, alone to # 7, then decided I'd had enough. Wasn't mentally ready to head into the depths of the Pawtuckaway boulder field at night.

Red Day 1 - Splits

Tuesday Sep 5

Run hills (trails) 40:00 [3] 5.4 km (7:24 / km) +206m 6:13 / km
ahr:153 max:169 shoes: Nike Air Assail Trail
Early evening run at Gunstock. Mostly on ski trails, then decided to go up and over the top of Cobble Mtn. For a small hill, there's a lot of up on it.

Monday Sep 4

Run (trails) 47:00 [3] 7.2 km (6:32 / km) +150m 5:55 / km
ahr:152 max:166 shoes: Nike Air Assail Trail
trail run at Ahern with my new FRWD recorder - GPS, altimeter, thermometer, and HR monitor - if I can get it to talk with my Timex HR belt - no luck on that so far.
Was getting some sporadic beeping at points - once I got stuff downloaded, looks like it lost GPS lock. Was under some thick hemlocks, it was wet, etc Probably enough to do it. I finally stopped for about 10-15 seconds in a semiclearing and regained a fix.

Had it turned on during the drive back home sitting on the dashboard. It is able to maintain a GPS lock through the windshield and it was picking up something it thought was a heart beat. Pretty sure I can't maintain between 213 and 236 bpm for 8 1/2 minutes though...

Need to figure out how to transfer the GPS track out of this and into OCAD - seems to do a reasonable job - could be suitable for mapping trail sections.
