| Setting controls in the am before the Ahern event and picking them up afterwards. No FDFs, but plenty of mosquitoes.
The guy didn't open the gat until after 9:30, and with an announced start time of 10:00, I was getting a bit nerrvous.
Good turnout - a couple of families with small kids, a couple that came all the way up from Long Island just for the meet, and more of the regulars than I was expecting.
Was stressing sbout being totally unprepared most of the week ahead of time, but with being straight out at work, didn't have a lot of time to do more than feel stressed.
Things sort of peaked late on Friday, when just before going out to hang some controls, I realized I had more control locations than available flags. Some rapid course redesignm and deciding to use my mini-control flags for some of the very obvious locations, and things settled down. |

| Up the Winnipesaukee River from the end of Water St to just below the dam, then back down. Working pretty hard on the first part.
AOWN - a good sized beaver (being chased by a kid, yelling "Hey Ma! a beaver. I'm gonna catch 'im!"
A heron by the edge of the river by the bandstand. Lot's of ducks and Canada geese.
Also lots of folks fishing.
Just as I was putting the canoe back on the car, a nice lightning strike across the lake, followed fairly shortly by the heavens opening...
A good mental break after watching the grandkids for most of the day - 4 hours by myself. Lots of fun, but it can wear you out. |
