Tuesday Jan 30

Run (pavement) 26:40 [3] 4.75 km (5:37 / km) +66m 5:15 / km
ahr:149 max:166 shoes: Nike Air Assail Trail
Evening run, about 15 degrees, not too windy.
Mostly clear sky, with a nice ring around the moon. As I remember, this is a harbinger of snow, something about the number of stars within the ring indicates how many days until it snows, or was that an indicator of how much snow we'd get?
Either way I didn't see any stars within the ring - maybe some of the fluffy white goodness finally coming our way?

Sunday Jan 28

XC Ski (skating) 52:00 [3] 10.9 km (4:46 / km) +55m 4:39 / km
ahr:154 max:170 shoes: Yellow Fischer Skating
Another late afternoon session on the horse track.
Snow cover is holding up fairly well. We had a dusting overnight of large powdery flakes. As loing as the sun doesn't have any brown spots to hit and warm up, it seems to stay pretty well.
There's a few spots where it's icy and very hard, and some spots where the little amount of snow has drifted, but those are at most 2" deep, not enough to bog down in.

Did 5 laps at a good hard tempo - about 14 km/hr clip - (FRWD GPS is good at calculating and showing this stuff). Rest was at a varied pace.

Saturday Jan 27

XC Ski tempo (skating) 46:00 [3] 10 km (4:36 / km) +56m 4:28 / km
ahr:152 max:166 shoes: Yellow Fischer Skating
More loops at Bolduc Park.
Hard to get much climb in with there only being about a 4 m elevation difference between the high end and the low end of the "track".

Back when this was a horse track, I wonder if the horses noticed??

Went out on some of the trails in the woods, not much snow cover in there, and not much elevation difference either, so not worth the effort.
Note
Can still feel the after-effects of the pushups and situps. Back in the day, would never have noticed a paltry little effort such as that...

Wednesday Jan 24

Run (treadmill) 22:00 [2] 2.2 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks
Treadmill at the hotel
Pushup 50 [5]
Situp 50 [5]
OK - I've been inspired by JJ's dedication to his strength program
Note
Went back through my FRWD tracks and entered some workouts after the fact.

Tuesday Jan 23

XC Ski (skating) 37:00 [3] 7 km (5:17 / km) +40m 5:08 / km
ahr:154 max:166
Bolduc park - light snow cover over some hard pack.
After dark, not much moon. Thankfully the 700M loop is fairly smooth.
Used to be a horse racing track - now a community XC ski area right in town during the winter. Not much trail variety, but it has snow.

Monday Jan 22

Run (pavement) 31:00 [3] 5.1 km (6:05 / km) +55m 5:46 / km
shoes: Nike Air Assail Trail
Evening run. Some snow in places on the sidewalk - sort of like running on sand.

Saturday Jan 20

XC Ski (skating) 42:00 [3] 6.5 mi (6:27 / mi) +77m 3:52 / km
ahr:155 max:169 shoes: Yellow Fischer Skating
Back and forth on the lanes at Gunstock. Maybe 1-2" of powder over hardpack glaze, but it held up pretty well.
Wind was picking up, temps in the mid teens. A bit nippy att he ends of the lanses, where the wind seemed to be concentrating its efforts.

Saw a fox (red, not swamp) wandering back and forth looking for lunch - he looked at me, but didn't get spooked until I started skiing in his direction.

Monday Jan 15

(shoveling) 25 [3]
What one weather forecast had promised would be 5-10" of nice snow turned out to be 1.5" of a little bit of snow mixed in with sleet, freezing rain, and other forms of unpleasant and utterly worthless frozen precipitation.
So, rather than having to trudge out to the back shed, where the snow blower is still waiting for winter to be transferred up to the garage, I grabbed a shovel and pounded, scraped and otherwise broke up the junk on the driveway and moved it over to the edge.
If it stays cold and we get some real snow, this would at least provide a good base.
C • Man, is it looking baseless in... 1

Cold and brisk, good breeze.
