Event: Boulder Dash 2007

Orienteering race 48:30 [4] *** 4.9 km (9:54 / km) +110m 8:54 / km
spiked:10/12c shoes: '05 Integrator Hightops
Pre-running the Green Y course - were short folks willing to go out early.

Almost pegged it - went ot the wrong boulder on the way to 1 - I thin it was the Green X control 1 - fortunately right on the way. screwed up #4, Maybe a minute's worth.

Had 48:30 for the course - GPS distance covered 4.9K, versus the OCAD length of 4.35K.

Fastest time for the course on theday, but then I had been to each control location previously, some several times....
Orienteering 1:00:00 [1] 4.5 km (13:20 / km) +125m 11:42 / km
shoes: '05 Integrator Hightops
Vetting, etc.
Mtn Bike 30:00 [2] 5 km (6:00 / km)
Picking up the White / Yellow controls, relabeling them and resetting for Sunday.

Much faster than on foot. Getting better with the gears.

Friday Sep 28

Orienteering 3:40:00 [2] *** 11.88 km (18:31 / km) +395m 15:53 / km
shoes: Falcon spikes 2007
Hanging controls and vetting at Nottingcook Forest in Bow for tomorrow's Boulder Dash, along with schlepping water up into a couple of the remote water stops.

AOWN - just about stepped on a good sized garter snake (18") in one of the open areas. I imagine it had been sunning itself when I came along and disturbed a perfectly good snooze...

Hiking 30:00 [1]
shoes: Gray Nike XCR
Checking out hte enhanced XC trails at Gunstock, with Ryan on my shoulders for most of the time.

AOWN - saw a doe and a fawn a bit ahead of us. They ran off down the trail, instead of heading right into the woods. I think Ryan was watching them, at least he was real quiet while they were in view

Trails are really shaping up - most of the new sections that have been cut are now smoothed out and covered with a nice soft layer of mulch. Need to do some fine tuning on the new trail map and find out what GNA is going to name the new trails. Can't wait for snow, although it isn't feeling much like winter - 77F at 7pm.
