Run (trails) 1:22:00 [3] 8.7 km (9:26 / km) +500m 7:19 / km

From Alpine Ridge parking lot up across Mt Rowe ridge, to summit of Gunstock and back down. Hurrying to get back for a noon meeting.

Moderately warm, but breeze up on top made it OK. Saw quite a few folks out there, surprising for a Friday - guess other folks are on vacation too.
Blueberries were out in full force - 3 people sitting in the middle of patches picking. DIdn't see any bears, but I bet they're loving it.

Decided to head back up on Mt Rowe and harvest some blueberries. Had 2 1/2 yr old grandson Ryan along for company. Parked so I could get on the trail over halfway up the Mt Rowe ridge, but there were still some pretty steep pitches to get up, compounded by having a giggling kid on my shoulders. Giggling was in response to his latest trick - pull of his hat and toss it to the side of the trail. On cue, Gramps would stop pick it up and put it back up on his head. Start over again. When Gramps got smarter and didn't put the hat back on Ryan's head, Ryan grabbed Gramps hat and tossed it. A lot of giggling going on.

He did walk the less steep sections. Was actually a great help with berrypicking also. Figured out very quickly that blue ones are good and the green ones get left on the bushes. Took quite a while for him to get bored with that, but there was plenty of other stuff to do while keeping Gramps in sight.

Guess I wore him out, he fell asleep in the car seat on the short ride home..

Broke camp a day early from Dry River, as the forecast for Thursday was for torrential rain and it's a bitch breaking camp in the rain. Had been planning on donig some fishing, but everyone else decided to do the hike up to Arethusa Falls at Paul's urging, so I tagged along.

Many impressive waterfalls along the way up Bemis Brook, and Arethusa Falls at 200 feet was awesome with the high water.

Hiking 1:00:00 [2]

Up to the second crossing on the trail, then lot's of bouncing around on the rocks as I fished first up the river to the middle of the S curve, then down to the secret hole.

Hiking 1:15:00 [2]
shoes: Teva River Shoes
First full day of fishing. Up the trail to the bridge, then fished down to just above the S curves. With the water so high, wasn't able to get across to continue downstream, so headed back up to the trail and headed down to about the second crossing. Raining intermittently most of the day, but it was fairly warm, so no repeats of past years when I remember shivering on the river, and having a hard time getting worms onto the hook because of cold fingers.

Ran into Bup and James, said they'd found a moose skeleton just above the bridge, so went to take a look at it. An impressive sight, even with the bones scattered around a bit. Whatever critters had been at it had done a good job of tearing it apart- the back bone was pretty much together, the skull was off a ways and the legs were off in different directions. Didn't see the antlers, wuld have liked to have brought one of those back.
